L-arginine L-Pyroglutamate l-lysine HCI l-Ornithine HCI for hair?
Anyone taking such an amino acid supplement, and may it work for hair?
I am asking since I am still sheddign way too much, and have been for awhile.
The one I got is from source naturals, "amino night" complex.

cpio - I got the same stuff right here on my desk. It can produce potentially undesirable Nitric oxide metabolites which are inflammatory intermediates.
However, it may possible help as well. It's one of those things were only a test will tell you. One thing is this stuff will make you as hard as a rock when taken on an empty stomach and without carbohydrate for a few hours prior to its use, especially if other supplements such as antioxidants were taken.
While it may boost the necessary growth hormone, which could give help with growing hair, plus the nitric oxide itself being good. The downside risks (not for certain) are elevated prolactin and hair loss.
The way to tell is when you wake up the next morning, note if you have any inflammation on the scalp. The "acid test," is if you bang a chick on it. If you see that your forehead or scalp is inflammed or feels different, then you know it could be counterproductive.
If your body needs it, then it may do well, so no way to say 100%, but worth a test. I don't take it very often because for me, I get the scalp affect from it.

Re: L-arginine L-Pyroglutamate l-lysine HCI l-Ornithine HCI for hair?
North-Europe: I was shedding a few hairs per day under the shower while on L-arginyne + L-ornithine + L-lysine. wasn't loosing a single hair before that and i am just losing 1 or 2 hairs these days (I stopped that stuff a few weeks back).
I have never tried L-Pyroglutamate... what is it for?
the reasoning I had made for those three was: lysine must be good for hair. arginine and ornithine are used by the body to make spermine, which apparently grows hair according to an italian study... couldn't find any spermine supplement so I tried those two together. Found a supplement from vitaminshoppe with 1250mg of arginine and 750mg of ornithine per tablet...
maybe i'll give them another try one of these days...

Re: L-arginine L-Pyroglutamate l-lysine HCI l-Ornithine HCI for hair?
I have been on L-arginyne + L-ornithine + L-lysine again, for the last two days and I am shedding again... amazing how instantaneous of an effect they have...
I wonder if this could possibly be good... but it scares me and I think I may quit again from tomorrow.
Anyone has an idea why this happens???
North-Europe: are you still on them or you quit as well?
CS?
thanks!

magic_gro - The problem here is the Arginine Pyroglutamate. The problem here is that you're getting a lot of iNos, which is inflammatory and prolactin, so would avoid this. Essentially, a possible byproduct of NO production is peroxynitrate.

CS, I am not sure I understand...
"The problem here is the Arginine Pyroglutamate."
I am not having any Pyroglutamate, but yes I am having Arginine... do they both pose a problem?
and I don't know why but was rather afraid of ornithine
on the other hand is lysine safe and useful to continue?
thanks!

Re: L-arginine L-Pyroglutamate l-lysine HCI l-Ornithine HCI for hair?
magic_gro - Arginine as well as ornithine will increase NO (nitric oxide). While this is good for blood flow, there is a dark side of NO production, which is that the byproduct of its production results in the inflammatory nitrosamines, which are detrimental for hair.
So in other words, it's best to avoid certain nitric oxide precursors. However, Ecklonia cava will increase NO, while fighting inflammatory nitrosamines--the best of both worlds.

so they are both bad?
how about lysine? can I keep on taking it?
and is there any good reason to take Pyroglutamate?
thanks!

Re: L-arginine L-Pyroglutamate l-lysine HCI l-Ornithine HCI for hair?
magic_gro - Lysine is perfectly fine to take. In fact, I tried out jdp710's idea of using lysine topically and it felt pretty good.
Taking lysine internally will help in the fight against viral toxins, and help in the fight against Lp(a). check out prior threads about lysine or the Pauling protocol.
Arginine Pyroglutamate or other forms of arginine and arginine precursors like ornithine should be avoided as free forms in most cases.

Re: L-arginine L-Pyroglutamate l-lysine HCI l-Ornithine HCI for hair?
and what is your take on these:
http://www.coleparmer.com/catalog/product_index.asp?cls=38183
http://www.coleparmer.com/catalog/product_index.asp?cls=38182
there's an Italian study (on humans!) by Giuliani that says they grow hair both when taken systemically and topically.
somewhere else i also read they increase the lifespan of fruit flies... but alas anything you do to fruit flies makes them live longer, just like anything you do to lab rats makes them grow hair...

spermidine references
http://www.hair2010.org/abstract/96.asp
http://www.bioscalin.it/pdf/Giuliani.pdf
http://www.bioscalin.it/cronobiogenina/pdf/clinico.pdf
they compared in a double blind study three groups of people treated with:
A) just spermidine
B) spermidine along with their old Bioscalin (TM) formulation
C) placebo
bottom line: spermidine is the ingredient that makes the difference. the addition of the ingredients from their old formulation seems to provide no significant boost

Re: L-arginine L-Pyroglutamate l-lysine HCI l-Ornithine HCI for hair?
L-arginine is somehow a libido booster. It is the natural substrate for NO release by the NOS enzyme. According to some studies in PubMed, release of NO induces LH pulses = more LH, but strangely, substrates for NO are at the same time reducing testosterone production?! L-arginine causes also mild GH and IGF-1 boost, which changes insulin levels? High doses of NO can also reversibly decrease sperm production.
Vitamin D is actually a hormone and does great things to us. Vitamin D helps regulate blood pressure, bone density, mood and behavior, muscle strength, hair growth, immune function, and programmed cell death.
