Combating grey hair without hair loss?
So I've had grey hairs sprouting out since I was 12 years old. Yes, odd to have it as a kid. Though the hairs are actually white rather than grey.
Now at age 27, there are a whole ton of them all over my head and I want to do something about it.
So ideally, I would like to solve this issue from the inside, so that it grows my normal hair colour. Is this possible?
If not, then the other way around it is to dye my hair, but I feel with all of those chemicals, I'm sure it would induce hair loss in some way. So are their hair dyes out there that are natural and won't aggravate hair loss?
Thanks!

Get some blood work done on your copper and zinc ratio. Also get a hair mineral test done.

Re: Combating grey hair without hair loss?
I'm in (was in) the same boat. Graying at 12, now 29. Though in the last couple years, they have very slowly been turning back to the original color, one by one, not at all once. I know this because when I see random strands that have fallen onto what I'm wearing, there is an obvious transition from white to dark in the transitional ones (100 at least). In that time, I've only had a couple turn from dark to gray instead.
Here's what I've been doing, and if you're similar, it could help you just as much:
- no junk food
- lettuce, and greens, often
- a mineral supplement (I used concentrace)
- a quality kelp supplement
- shampoo with natural ingredients only
Balance your sodium/potassium and zinc/copper appropriately.
These are the things that have started my slow transition back! I have felt less stress from these as well, as remineralization lowers the stress burden and response, and ultimately may be what helps you. Growing up I was unbelievably stressed out over everything, and now feeling the calmest in my life, I don't feel it's a coincidence.
For topicals for the time being, I've heard some decent stuff about henna, tea and coffee.
I know what a pain it is being the only gray one of the bunch!

tom hagerty.. the dude who does the scalp exercises doesn't really have any grey hair and he is in his 80s i think. it could be a bloodflow issue.. simliar to the current blood flow theories circulating. couldnt tell you if it is true or not.

CS,
based on this article, should I be supplementing on tocotrienols and copper? If so, can you recommend which to buy and dosages?
thanks!

Re: Combating grey hair without hair loss?
Would it be a good idea to start by supplementing with Copper?
Also I've heard Copper raises testosterone... wouldn't that be bad for hairloss?

Re: Combating grey hair without hair loss?
I have been taking mixed tocotrienols (the one's CS recommends) for several years and I am definitely more grey now than before I started. Then again, I actually think grey hair on guys is awesome and frankly I would be upset if all my grey hair turned brown, but that's just me.
In any case, the IH regimen seems to have (knock on wood) stabilized my hair loss, but it definitely did not do anything for my grey hair.
Then again, both my parents went grey at a very young age, so perhaps I am less grey than I would have been if I hadn't taken the tocotrienols (I'm about 25% grey)? Who knows.....

I missed these....
Copper gets a bad rap, but the main difference is that there is biological and non-biological copper. Also there are other relationships as well. The basic idea is that a little bit of copper will kick out the non-biological copper. Copper itself is necessary to produce the enzyme to make pigmented hair.
Here is what helps (one of these per day): http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Copper-Sebacate-22-mg-120-Tablets/1155?=hil335
On Toco-sorb, one could take one or two gel caps per day:
http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Toco-Sorb-Mixed-Tocotrienols-and-Vitamin-E-60-Softgels/137?=hil335
Overall the copper will be more effective for the gray than tocotrienols alone, however the toco-sorb is good for MPB, so it won't hurt

Healthyfixx might return, but it's not certain when or if ever. The reason it went away was a legal threat from a similar site who had been around for a while. It just so happened the the traffic there was interfering with their commerce. Do to other complications the web designer had some issues that made it impossible to put the site someplace else. So the future is unknown.
Here is the "way back machine" which screen shots past articles...some of the photos are no longer intact, but it will show most of what was done some years ago:

Re: Combating grey hair without hair loss?
One more question about Copper.. Isn't copper one of the heavy metals we are trying to detox? Is it bad for us?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Combating grey hair without hair loss?
Magnesium is important here because of its catalase-enhancing characteristics, per the research which showed that one reason for graying is reduced catalase activity which leads to increased hydrogen peroxide "bleaching the hair from within."
This study shows magnesium does indeed increase catalase activity:
http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~content=a78033280
It can be concluded that dietary Mg supplementation could increase hepatic Mg concentration, enhance CAT mRNA expression and consequently enhance CAT activity, and the organic Mg (MgAsp or MgdiAsp) is much more efficient than the inorganic form (MgO)
I take magnesium supplements and I also use magnesium oil. Thus far my hair has mostly retained its color. I also think daily headstands have helped both hair thickness and color.

Good to know about Magnesium
CS, can you answer my question about copper being a heavy metal that we detox, so isn't it bad for us? Also if I take copper, do I also need to take zinc?

Re: Combating grey hair without hair loss?
CS, how long it usually takes to see the results for gray hair reversal?
I dont think i am getting anywhere with my reversal of a few grays. I tend to keep my stress levels down various ways - maybe delphine suggestion as with topical magnesium would with addition work better than just vitamin E, copper and catalase...

Re: Combating grey hair without hair loss?
Honestly, white hair coming on since age 12 is so odd that I suggest extensive blood testing, especially if there are health symptoms. It could be autoimmune, for example.

Re: Combating grey hair without hair loss?
As part of reversing gray hair, it is helpful to use copper. About zinc, most people who are worried about hair loss should use it (about 15 mg per day).
