Does insufficient sunlight exposure cause grey hair?
Ever since the pandemic happened, I've been working remotely from home.
Even though I have naturally exposure to sun from the window, I do think that I am getting less sun light exposure since I don't need to go out as much as I used to. On top of that London, UK naturally has less Sunny days and more clouds so we are all deficient to some degree I suppose.
So how can I safely increase my exposure to sun without the harmful effect of UV rays? Okay I guess you will say sun screen.
But is it possible, to get the benefit of the sun, which helps keep grey hairs away by using red light instead? I am thinking of buying one of these soon. Just wondering if it is considered to give those benefits like the sun and more.

Harmful effects of UV rays really do not occur without a catalyst. In other words, without something like processed seed oils, the UV will actually do little.
Behind a window will filter out the good stuff also.
There are devices that will provide natural Vitamin D via UV.

CS, I’ve seen you write about this a number of times but it was many years ago. Just wondering if you could update us on your current status regarding grey hair. Have you found anything that you have found beneficial in practise, or something you strongly believe could help in theory? Appreciated your knowledge.

So quite recently, I made post on NMN:
https://immortalhair.forumotion.com/t13620-nicotinamide-mononucleotide-promotes-cell-proliferation-and-hair-growth-by-reducing-oxidative-stress
Not mentioned directly, yet based on purely anecdotal feedback, some users of NMN are seeing some gray hair reversal using it. Some caution is warranted though because NMN can require co-factors, so if one is nutritionally depleted, they could crash from NMN.
Moreover, below are some suggestions that could help, but take note that the first one mentioned here is
Coleus Forskohlii (Forskolin), and that has an issue with NMN, meaning that despite NMN helping with gray hair, it appears to impede the induction of melanin (necessary for pigment) if taken simultaneously with NMN.
Coleus Forskohlii (Forskolin)
Mechanism: Forskolin, an active compound in Coleus forskohlii, is believed to stimulate cyclic AMP (cAMP) production, which may enhance cellular processes involved in melanin production.
Copper
Mechanism: Copper is essential for melanin production, as it activates the enzyme tyrosinase, which is necessary for converting tyrosine to melanin.
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)
Mechanism: Vitamin B5 plays a role in keratin synthesis and overall hair health, which may contribute to delaying the aging process of hair.
Catalase-Rich Supplements
Mechanism: Catalase is an enzyme that breaks down hydrogen peroxide, a compound that builds up in hair follicles and can bleach hair from the inside out, contributing to graying.
Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA)
Mechanism: PABA is part of the vitamin B-complex and has been linked with melanin synthesis.
L-Tyrosine
Mechanism: L-tyrosine is a precursor to melanin. It supports melanin production by providing the necessary amino acid for melanogenesis.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)
Mechanism: Ashwagandha is an adaptogen that helps reduce oxidative stress and may promote healthy melanocyte function.
Amalaki (Indian Gooseberry)
Mechanism: Rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, amalaki is widely used in Ayurvedic medicine to prevent graying and promote hair health.
Resveratrol
Mechanism: This polyphenol is an antioxidant that can protect cells from oxidative stress, potentially protecting hair follicles and melanocytes.
