about a month ago, I started doing the manuals 20 minutes in the morning and evening on most days. Now if I rub over my scalp it literally starts snowing.

Yes, I have. My scalp is also snowing. Not sure the reasoning for this.

Keratinization/increased scalp metabolism.

I'm getting some mad flaking as well. My temples flake up every time I do the massage and will stick around for a couple of days if I stop. It's gotten better than it was and is pretty manageable, pretty bizarre though. I've started taking MSM to see what effect that has and am going to start putting some olive oil on my hair before massaging to hopefully assist in getting the gunk out.

Well, the olive oil cut away the flaking. Think I used too much though cause my scalp was covered in it with just a handful. Not sure how effective it is for getting rid of gunk though. Will keep it up for a week before the night sessions to see what happens. At least it doesn't look like I have bad dandruff on my temples now.

One side effect I didn't think about was the increased tingling feeling from using peppermint soap to wash my hair afterwards. Normally I barely feel it at all but it was really potent tonight.

It looks dumb, but I've been using bag clips to stick on my temples and help push junk out and increase bloodflow/loosen scalp. They seem to work well

Olive oil works wonders for the flaking. Probably speeds up getting some of the gunk out too.

Hey guys, did anyone stop his hairloss with this detumescence ? Regrowth in some places are awesome but if they're accompanied by a continuous loss it's not the solution right ?

Post  hairyshowers Wed Feb 26, 2014 6:26 am

Hi guys,

Iv been doing this massage for around 2months now and believe I am seeing results.

When i first started with detumescence I was amazed at the amount of grease that would come out of my scalp, my hands would feel oily afterwards (in fact still do to a lesser extent). I go as hard as my fingers allow and work out the tight (or fibrotic) skin by kneeding and pressing. I never manage the full 40mins per day in 2x20min sessions (as per the study) but instead have managed to drill it into my head to do multiple mini massages throughout the day (on my way to walk, sat at my desk, in the shower etc).

Anyway the reason I believe I am seeing results is because my shedding has dropped from hundreds of hairs per day to almost normal shed rate, by this I mean equivalent of the sides and back of my head. I don't want to attribute this all to massage however as I have recently started dermarolling with a 2mm roller twice monthly. I don't use any numbing agent so it is slightly painful but I think will prove beneficial in the long run. I have only done 3 sessions so far though so I think its too early for results from DR.

As a side note, I dont take any pro-hair drugs, although I have in the past with nothing but bad stories to report.  I am 27 years old and started balding at 24/25. The only suppliments I take are sea kelp (for iodine) and occasionally quercitin (for hayfever/allergies when the season flares me up), however I have set an order down for Tocosorb (vit e), Vitamin B (CS recommended recently - http://alturl.com/yohax), Vitamin D3(5000 IU) and Krill oil to help aid the internal fight.

Thought I would throw my story up as I have been a silent watcher for months and cant recommend people trying this enough. I don't have any regrowth from this technique yet but I am not expecting anything cosmetic for a good 12 months at least.

Hey hair, If you have only been balding for 2-3 years it won't take 12 months to just see "cosmetic results" There are people here that have been bald for years and have seen cosmetic results within 4 months to a year.

Keep doing what you're doing!

I can try to explain. I start by feeling around my scalp to find tight skin or any hard tissue then squeeze/pinch around the area then squash the skin with downward pressure.
I first found I couldn't do it with one hand, so I now scrunch my scalp upward with the palm of both hands (held around the sides of my head) then use my finger tips to do deep massages whilst the skin is kept loose.

Hope that helps :-/

For some reason I have a hard time getting myself to massage anything but my bald temples. I must be the only one. It just seems wrong to be rough with the existing hair. This "forceful" massaging is a lot of pressure.

Been doing temples for 6 weeks. Just decided to man up and try some other spots on my head. wow. The other spots of my head relative to my temples are super tight. The other thing I noticed is that the other spots of my head feel like there is nothing between the skin and bone. My temples feel much "softer". Not sure what to think of that.

The quality of my Hair feels much better from doing this, but it seems like my hairline has receded even more since starting this. Has anyone else ran into this? (been doing it for about a couple months now)

Thanks complex, I hope so, however iv taught myself how to be realistic about my hair to avoid my own disappointment. I also know there is no quickfix for MPB (even with harmful drugs), it seems people who report success with manuals have usually been doing it for a long time. I'm sticking with this for the long haul whether it takes 3months or 3years.

Stresssucks- I thought the same initially and was worried about being too rough with my existing fragile hair. But if we are improving our scalp environment then any hairs lost should return, I massage as deep as my fingers can tolerate. "Go hard or go home" I believe is the cheesy American saying :-)

Yes, as Margo once said, 'You can't rub it out, you can only rub it in.'

I've posted this before but I figure I'd do it again.

In this video, he actually magnifies the scalp (simple idea, yet no one thinks to do this) and explains that the follicles get clogged with junk. Remove the junk, and the hair will grow. Similar idea to d-therapy
