I had that when I was using minox. Some few weeks after I quit minox the hair dissapeared. I am assuming you are referring to the hair between your eye brow and your temple peaks.

No I'm talking about my side burn hair and the hair just above my ear being the same texture and very thin. Most people just have a thinning vertex and/or temples. I'm wondering how many people have this same sort of thinning above the ears. I'm only 26. The hair is coarse like pubic or facial hair.

It can thin there (on the sides of the head) and in many cases also recede.
I think it is an incorrect misunderstanding that mpb only affect crown and top of head.

wow thanks for that link, i exhibit a lot of those symptoms, except the weight gain. i have a scheduled blood work today, ill try and get a copy of the results, my doctors smirked at me the last time i was in ( a year and a half ago) when i said i wanted to get tested for my thyroid. He said its just typical mpb (he's slick bald). I wish those pictures worked so i could compare my situation.
Anybody know anything about myxedema?

Re: Does anyone have hair on sides of their head like this? Pics
My hair on the sides looks exactly the same as yours. It's a little worse on the right side than the left side. Very strange, i have more hair on top of my head than on the sides. To disguise this i just buzz the sides realy short, like 1 mm. I have quite a lot of grey hairs on the sides too and i'm only 29.
Also my left temple is NW1 and my right temple NW2, with diffusse thinning all over my head but not as bad as on the sides. At one time i saw a photo on some website of someone with diffusse alopecia areata and this looked a lot like my hair.
So i went to a dermatologist but this guy was a complete a**hole. He was pretty rude and didn't take me serious. Without even taking a good look at my hair he said i have alopecia androgenica and that i shouldn't be looking on the internet at photos and information and make selfdiagnosis. Then i asked him if i have alopecia androgenica, how come i have more hair on top then the sides, he answered that because of evolution humans have less hair with every generation and that in the future people will probably have no more hair at all
He said the only thing that helps is taking female hormones. So i said you mean finasteride? And he thought for a couple of seconds, like he didn't even know what this medicine's name is and said uhm....yes. Very strange that a dermatologist would call finasteride "female hormones" .
Then i realized this guy was a moron who knew little about hairloss so i left the room. Maybe i'll visit a different one someday but i get the feeling the people on this forum know more about hairloss than the average dermatologist. So i'm not sure if i just have a strange form of alopecia androgenica or diffuse alopecia areata. My father also always had very little hair on the side's, but he is now a NW 5 or 6 with the typical horseshoe pattern.

Maup - Would suggest you take iodine (12.5 mg or higher per day) and a short course of dessicated thyroid.
I read a lot of posters frequently dissapointed with their dermatologist and physicians.
As far as I'm concerned, if the physician isn't an integrative physician, I'll expect them to know very little.

12.5 mg? thats about 55 kelp tablets! I also have a bottle of iosol wich has about 1.8 mg iodine a drop, but it says here not to take more than 1 drop a day. Is'nt 12.5 mg a day an overdose?
Thnx

Use the search function and type in iodine and read through some of the posts. There's alot of information on this site about iodine and thyroid. FYI i just took 50 mg in a glass of water two hours ago; im still kicking.

I have hair at temples just like that and have for the last 8 years!
Unfortunately I couldn't open that link....Are you saying thin temple hair relates to hypothroidism?

elan164,
As crincrin posted the link to, loss of hair on the sides of head can be from being hypothyroid.
Some possible cures to experiment =
avoidance of free glutamic acid/MSG .... it's in 95% of processed foods
Lugol's/selenium ... can also try boron to help with flouride. Also, salt water protocol if getting bromide detox symptoms.
Indium
Low oxalate diet.
Avoid gluten. Like MSG, it's in a lot of processed foods.
Avoid hot showers ... if you have chlorine in the water

Re: Does anyone have hair on sides of their head like this? Pics
Here's iodine info I posted on another hair loss forum. It's a bit of a read, so skip to the dashed lines if you just want a summary.
-The halogen elements are, in increasing weight order, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine.
-Halogens have similar chemical properties. Consequently, halogens can displace each other in organic molecules. A heavier halogen will be displaced by a lighter halogen.
-Dietary iodine has decreased tremendously over the last 100 years. Environmental bromide and fluoride have increased over the past fifty years. This means that we have less iodine in our bodies, and even then some of that is being displaced by fluoride and bromide.
-thyroid hormone production requires iodine.
-100 years ago doctors used to use Lugol's solution (a mixture of iodine + iodide) to treat all kinds of problems, including hypo/hyperthyroid disorders.
All of the above is pretty much fact as far as I can tell. What comes next is what the "iodine docs" think (Flechas, Brownstein, and Abrahams if you want to google).
-The RDA for iodine is around 200mcg. these docs treat patients with sometimes hundreds of mg (milligrams) (1000mcg = 1mg)
-They claim that hormone receptors throughout the body need iodine for optimal function; our bodies don't have enough iodine, so we have all kinds of endocrine problems.
-Apparently high doses of iodine can treat some cystic endocrine diseases (fibrocystic breast disease, polycystic ovarian disease, etc.). They claim that the breast needs iodine, which is why thyroid problems are much more common in women. Some people think the male equivalent would be prostate problems.
-High doses of iodine seem to kick out stored bromide in the body. This produces detox symptoms like headache, runny nose, bad taste in the mouth, etc. Some people think it kicks out other toxins as well (some heavy metals) .
-Detox symptoms can be relieved by following a supplementation protocol. Niacin (vitamin B2) to flush out toxins; vitamins B3 and C; Selenium to facilitate the conversion of T4 to T3; magnesium and zinc
-Salt flushes (drinking a bit of salt mixed into water) can be used to excrete bromine in the urine; the chloride outcompetes the bromine for reabsorption in the kidneys.
----------------------------------------------------------
Cliff's:
-High doses of iodine may help with endocrine problems, thus perhaps helping with hair loss.
-You will probably experience detox symptoms from kicking stored bromide back into circulation; things (including hair loss) might get worse before they get better.

random bits of info
-Conventional medical dogma states that high doses of iodine CAUSE thyroid problems. User beware. The iodine docs claim that virtually all idiopathic (of unknown origin) thyroid problems are a result of iodine deficiency.
-Iodine and iodide aren't the same thing (same for fluoride/fluorine, etc.); iodide is the reduce form, the salt form, like sodium chloride; iodine is the oxidized form, and is much more reactive. Iodide seems to be easier on the body than iodine.
-TSH will sometimes go up while T4 goes down...apparently its temporary. TSH increases iodine transporters in the thyroid (and who knows what else), so the elevated TSH may be the bodies attempt to uptake more iodine. If you don't understand how the thyroid works (TSH, T4, what it does, etc.) a quick wiki search will set you straight.
-Personally I'm a still a bit skeptical, but I'm going to keep going with the supplementation. I did experience detox symptoms for the first few weeks, and have yet to see any benefits. But supposedly it takes months to years to see all the benefits.
Let me know if you've got questions.
And guys, if you start on iodine, please pay attention to your symptoms and post any progress/problems up on the internet somewhere.

Thanks crincrin, i actually just watched dr brownsteins video on iodine last night. I had my blood test taken yesterday and i just wanted to wait and see what came up before jumping on a larger dose of iodine. Ive been taking about 25-50mg every so often for the past month or so. I was doing some reading about adrenal fatigue and i matched quite a few of the symptoms and then found out that adrenals should be corrected before fixing thyroid - hence the bloodwork.

elan164 - Dr. Brownstein does not recommend any blood thyroid testing for at least 6-months post iodine. This is because a transient rise in TSH may occur, which will freak out any typical physician an expected zero understanding of how iodine really works in the body.
Instead, only monitor your basal temperature.

CS, when I started taking Lugol's, my TSH went up and T4 went down as expected (T4 within the normal range), but my LDL cholesterol also went up to 120 (from about ~85). Thoughts on this? Anything to worry about?

Haha that makes sense. I guess it will be interesting when i go to my doctor to see the results. Should i tell him that ive been taking iodine randomly? He's useless anyways, doesn't even acknowledge any of the symptoms i have and just blows it off - don't believe what you read on the internet is he favourite quote.
I stick with the temp readings for now. For this reading a few places say in the mouth and some say in the armpit, thoughts?

Still sticking at 97.52 in the mornings (never been higher than this), days seem to drop to 97.3. Testing roughly 100 mg of iodine, had some skin breakouts, especially on my scalp (shaved my head)

crincrin - Your LDL going up might be good thing. Curious about the HDL part, any movement up or down in that one?
So 'bad' cholesterol has a number of important functions. One of them is to help transport essential fatty acids, the other is to clear away endotoxins.
Generally, a reading below 130 mg/dl is considered normal.

or is oral the best option? do iherb sell at the conc. mentioned I couldn't seem to find it on their site. thanks

HDL didn't change much, I think it went up 2 points.
