Why are the follicles on the sides of my head miniaturizing like the top?
I thought that the sides and back (bald u-shape) hair were supposed to remain thicker than the thinning top hair, but in my case the hair is just as fine on the sides and back as the top. If there is any difference, it isn't discernible to me or the naked eye.
This is a concern because even though I don't intend to get a transplant, it eliminates the possibility; the hair is just too fine.
Any theories on why this happens in some and not others who keep the thickness in the side hair?

Sounds like more of an auto-immune condition than strictly androgenic. I'd look into that as well as
possible pathogens in your scalp. Is there any discernible skin condition visible on your scalp or anywhere else?

Thinning of hair in the non-MPB areas of the scalp is associated with thyroid problems.

Thanks to both of you, and I agree.
auto-immune first: Yes I take the top 6 to deal with some of that and have antibodies to gluten, which I avoid. I have some forehead acne lately, but in general no skin problems. I have washed with tea tree and/or seabuckthorn soap which "kills shit" lol.
Thyroid: Yes I know. Mom has thinning hair and AI thyroiditis. Same with sister, but hair not thinning yet. I have had normal thyroid tests in the past and have not been tested for antibodies because of it. I have taken iodine on and off, but feel it increases anxiety. I have adrenal fatigue and cortisol serves to potentiate thyroid hormone into the cells (or some version of that). So low cortisol may be rendering thyroid hormone partially inactive is what I'm saying.
Ironically though when I do get that inflammatory itch, it is only on the top in the traditionally non-u-shape part of the scalp. The itch fits the pattern if that makes sense.

I have had normal thyroid tests in the past and have not been tested for antibodies because of it.
The consensus in the alternative health community is that thyroid tests used by mainstream medicine are not effective.

Are yoy talking about the standard TSH only nonsense, or ALL the tests: tsh, t4 free, t3 free, t7, reverse t3. t3 uptake? If you're talking about the former, I'm aware. I mean I had the correct testing done. If you mean ALL testing then I'm not sure I follow you, other than relying on the basal temps?

I have the same thing going on as you Paradox, my hair is recceding, a little thin on the top and back, but also the sides???
My sideburn area and behind the ears shed alot of healthy looking hair, but miniaturized hair fall out ALL OVER my head???
My mum is thinning, has recently found out she has been insulin resistant (mabey before I was born too) and thyroid problems...

Sorry, I'm not sure. You'll have to ask CS.

When I got serious about fighting hair loss 3 months ago I got blood tests for for a few things like thyriod, vitamin and some other things I can't remember???, but the test was only simple and came back good apart from low iron what has helped me in finding I should'nt eat gluten!
I'm going to go back in a week or so to try and get indepth thyriod tests...

Let me know too, exact same symptoms. Iodine increases anxiety/palpitations so I can't use it. Mother has thinning hair, previous thyroid problems and hypoglycemia. Her brother has type 2 diabetes. Sister has had hyperthyroidism in the past.
My hair is thinning all around my ears and on the sideburn area along with the typical MPB areas. I feel Insulin/Adrenal/Thyroid all having some problem...

I just ordered a complete thyroid panel with antibodies, so I'll see what's going on. I ordered a 24 hour adrenal test too.
