More Questions on DHEA
Hey IH,
A couple of weeks ago I started 5mg of DHEA because my last Rhein test showed i was deficient (I aslo have extremely stubborn belly fat, I'm VERY lean). Started off well, I noticed an increase in energy, but a large crash in the evening.
A couple weeks later I started on 10mg in divided doses. The crash in the evening disappered and I also noticed better sleep and feeling more refreshed when I woke up. However I also noticed slight acne on my face, shoulders, and red spots on my chest.
So question is, do you think I'm taking too much?, or do you think my body is adjusting and I should stick it out?
Any advice is appreciated, Thanks IH!

Re: More Questions on DHEA
Joejoebaggins - I'm currently taking 5 mg and it's working great. If you get any acne it is a definite sign you're using too much.
Try cutting back to 5 mg. Or if you were taking 10 mg twice per day, then you might try cutting back to 10 mg and see what happens.

DHEA questions
I read on this site:
http://wellprohealth.blogspot.com/2008/04/dhea-protocol-for-adrenal-stress-and.html
This practitioner has a protocol for taking DHEA at night to regulate sleep patterns. I tend to find that taking DHEA at night makes sleep more difficult.
I have had adrenal fatigue with sleep problems for several years now and I have recently found that DHEA significantly helps it when dosed properly. Too much can easily hurt sleep from my experience.
I take probably less than 5 mg every other day or every third day transdermally (Life Flo DHEA Plus) first thing in the morning. It has a regulatory effect for me on almost everything. Inflammation, clear-headedness, pain, hypoglycemia, digestion and nervousness. I have taken Cortef, Progesterone, Pregnenalone and they do nothing relatively to DHEA. If anyone has experience with this, I would love to hear it. Joejoebaggins or IH, what times of the day do you take it or what brand you use.
Thanks

Re: More Questions on DHEA
IH,
I have had this bottle of Axid Labs 7-OH DHEA (7-Hydroxy-dhea) laying around for a few years. I couldn't locate much infor on 7-hydroxy-dhea, and I'm hoping you could shed some light on what is different about it physiologically and dosage wise. I'm pretty sure this brand was discontinued a while ago. It was marketed form bodybuilding (post cycle therapy) to prevent catabolism and work as a mild anti-estrogen. So the serving size is (50mg) and directions are 1 capsule 2 to three times/day.
I also have a bottle of 'regular' DHEA (100mg) pills made by "Nature's Purest" with the same dosage directions! Why are they making this stuff so strong? This Nature's Purest isn't even marketed for bodybuilders either. Is this for 80 year olds? 300mg a day!!?? I have actaully taken this much before and I became a grease ball!
I will admit that I don't realy feel anything physically at a small does of say 5mg. I took a 25mg pill of the Axis Labs yesterday morning after a really bad hangover and surprisingly I was in a pretty decent mood.

Re: More Questions on DHEA
JHarsh80 - That type of DHEA doesn't affect hormones, so much larger doses are used. It can be used for energy and stamina enhancement.
As far as regular DHEA goes, yeah a 100 mg is a lot, even for a 60 year-old. I think 80 years old would fill the bill on this one.

So does that mean it has no effect on stress or metal wellbeing? I'm a little confused. How can a hormone not affect hormones?

Re: More Questions on DHEA
JHarsh80 - You're right, what I meant to say is it doesn't affect androgen and estrogen hormones, but it can positively affect mood and stress hormones.

OK thanks. That's ideal then because I don't want to be affecting my adrogens or estrogens right? Or is that part of the beneficial part to taking DHEA as well; its ant-estrogenic effects?
I just re-read the Axis 7-OH info and they say:
7-OH LEAN is effective for both men and women. However, 7-OH LEAN is slightly anti-estrogenic and may not be suitable for women who are using prescription contraceptives or may be pregnant.

Re: More Questions on DHEA
JHarsh80 - That would make sense. I believe that 7-Keto-DHEA which is supposed to not affect hormones in fact does.
So if the same applies to 7-OH DHEA, wouldn't be surprised.
Regular DHEA supplies both T and E.
