Magnesium Oil Empty Magnesium Oil

Post  halfempty Tue Aug 16, 2011 6:52 am

Hey guys,

A while back there was a lot of talk surrounding the use of magnesium oil topically on our bodies and scalp. No one ever talks about it anymore and I was wondering what the general consensus ended up being regarding it efficacy?

Thanks!

I tried using it on the scalp but didnt like the way it made my hair look during the day and I didnt like the way it made my scalp feel at night when I was trying to sleep so I didnt stick with it.

I've been using it for about a month now, but I cannot say that I have noticed anything good or bad hairwise. I will continue to take it if at least to get extra magnesium.

I really doubt you're gonna see or feel a difference with magnesium... or most supplements.
We take it because its an essential mineral and most people are deficient. And because it can break up calcium deposits??

Magnesium deficiency is prevalent. It can take a year with oral supplementation to compensate for a deficiency. Mg oil will speed up the repletion process.

When I used Mg oil for a while, I would rub it on the scalp and rinse off, so there's no residue. It should absorb through the skin, it does not need to be soaked or left on.

Hey CS - that link says 400mg per day, yet Decalcify contains 300mg per capsule - at 3 capsules a day that would be 900mg per day.

Any particular reason you formulated Decalcify to have that much Magnesium?

Interesting study using Magnesium Chloride oil on the skin(not the scalp) and actual hair levels of magnesium measured by Hair Tissue Analysis.

After 12 weeks’ treatment 89% of subjects raised their cellular magnesium levels with an average increase of
59.7% recorded. Equivalent results using oral supplementation have been reported
over 9-24 months. Furthermore all patients showed an improvement in the
calcium/magnesium balance ratio where the mean improvement seen over the trial
period was 25.2%. Further observations indicated that 78% of patients also showed
significant evidence of detoxification of heavy metals.

I've just done some Googling and have compared different products and it seems that the % Daily Value listed on the product label is determined by the amount of magnesium salt in a tablet, capsule, etc. Since some salts will weigh more than others the % Daily Value's are kind of useless. What to look for is elemental magnesium and bioavailability, and with the magnesium orotate I believe CS thinks that magnesium being bound to orotic acid will help shuttle the magnesium into cells.

I have never used it on the scalp so cant help there. Rubbing it on any part of the fleshy part of the body is just as effective at raising Mag levels in the hair follicles as the study clearly shows.

If you live in the US you can probably get the same type of Mag oil (which is from the Netherlands sea bed) cheaper.

Pouring a bit on your scalp every night IMO isnt going to work. You have to get your whole body magnesium level up as outlined in the study. This will then lower the ratio between Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium (Mg), which will give you a lower insulin level which in turn will lower hair loss and cut down on scalp inflammation.

http://www.dannyroddy.com/2010/10/5/what-does-magnesium-have-to-do-with-hair-loss-a-lot.html

I buy the Magnesium flakes from ebay and make my own using spring water. Its cheaper and you can make it up to the strength that suits you.

Thats right, the flakes have a 46% level of Mag Chloride so a 50gm/100ml mix will give you a 23% Mag level. If this is too strong for you then use more water. Soak your feet in a footbath with it as well as rubbing over the body.

Most people are stressed out today and Magnesium is the mineral that drops rapidly with stress. If you are low in Mag, you will notice that you are calmer after using the Mag oil for a couple of months.
