Cheaper source of omega-3 fatty acids? Empty Cheaper source of omega-3 fatty acids?

Are there any cheaper alternatives to krill oil worth taking? Even for purposes other than hairloss such as heart/brain/cholesterol health, is fish oil still a worthy option?

For general health I would be surprised if fish oils weren't sufficient. However, get a good quality mercury-free one, it's the kind of supplement I would rather spend a little more on and be sure I'm getting quality.

The last one I bought was this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pharma-Nord-Bio-Fish-1000mg-160caps/dp/B000GY77S8

I guess it's still pricey though, and for the IH regimen I'm sure Krill oil is considerably superior.

Not really. You can try Blue Ice Fermented Cod Liver Oil but not exactly cheaper.

If you're worried about cost, would recommend to take less Krill Oil vs taking a fish oil supplement.

If you're worried that you aren't taking enough Krill Oil but can't afford to take more you can always add something like Chia Seeds on top of the Krill Oil/Blue Ice Fermented Cod Liver Oil.

Something I just realized is that Now Foods Krill Oil 1000mg is a much better value than their 500mg version. The serving size for 1000mg is only 1 capsule, while the serving size for the 500mg is 2 capsules, so you're basically paying twice as much. Wish I would have know this months ago, you can find the 1000mg version for around $30 most places.

Yeah but the 1,000mg is enteric coated. I have no idea if that is good or bad.

Hmmm.. Not sure. Is it possible that they are both enteric coated but they just didn't mention it on the page for the 5000mg?

Another question... Are other sources of omega 3 6 9 such as evening primrose oil/borage oil/black current oil/flax oil/pumpkin seed oil as prone to oxidation as fish oil is?

The 500mg are not enteric coated, I take them now. I don't have any problems with the 'fish burps' so they work fine for me. I've taken both and I'm not sure about the enteric coating issue. The oxidation I'm not sure about.

Why don't you just buy wild caught fish from your supermarket and eat that instead of meat. Also milled flaxseed is relativley cheap and can be easily added to just about any meal.

They don't sell wild fish around here.

Bummer. Have you tried Publix? The one where I live has a decent selection of frozen wild caught fish.
