First of all the link about the study (I really don't know, was it discussed here in the past?):

http://www.naturesgift.com/alopecia.htm (Scottish Aberdeen Study)

That's the recipe:

3ml Jojobaöl
20ml Grapeseed oil
3 drops thyme oil
3 drops lavender
3 drops rosemary
2 drops Atlas Cedarwood

Because of the fact that topicals in this forum are not represented enough - my mind - ,
I looked one more time for exceeding facts and discovered this american forum - http://forums.longhaircommunity.com
sorry, the link isn't complete, I miss the rest - where some women with MPB varified the recipe:

4 oz. Jojoba oil
4 drops each of Cedarwood, grapefruit, Bay,Thyme, Rosemary, Clary Sage, Basil, Patchouli, Lemon, Cypress, Sage, Geranium and 8 drops of Lavender:

Texas Cedarwood is good for dandruff and dermatitis.

Clary Sage helps with dandruff and hair loss.

Sweet Basil aids with hair growth and dry skin.

Atlas cedarwood aids with seborrhea and dandruff.

Cypress stimulates skin circulation.

Geranium balances oil gland secretion.

Grapefruit aids hair growth and oily skin.

Lavender balances sebum and stimulates cleansing and detoxifying.

Lemon balances sebum and strengthens epidermus function.

Patchouli is good for oily hair and scalp.

Rosemary is good for oily hair, skin and dandruff.

Sage shines hair, promotes growth and reduces alopecia.

Thyme helps treat dandruff and hair loss.

Ok, from my point of view we have to consider it carefully. The study is old, from 1999.
Women (with MPB) had more succsess than men. Men too?

I'm on the stuff since three days, seven month is a long long distance...

Bye

Crusher - I have seen a few posts over the years (on a different forum) using these topicals.

full study here:

http://archderm.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/134/11/1349

Lavender is most likely the most potent of the group.

I recently sampled several essential oils:

The Rest

Germanium: extremely strong aroma, which can linger for days, even after wash, gives me insomnia. I think it may be beneficial if not for the insomnia. stimulating. crazy floral.

Thyme: the most potent antibacterial, anti fungal essential oil, this is fact, must be diluted, burns on contact. personally, not for me, too antiseptic-like.

Sage: seemed like hairs shed a bit from it, not a note that vibed too well for me. seems anti dht, you can use it as a face tonic to make beard softer, but lavender is probably better for this. Think Vicks vapo-rub, more masculine than lavender.

Clary Sage: prefer this note, but didn't go with it.

The Best

Cedar: best hair conditioner I have ever used, just sits in the hair very naturally, strengthens hair, and makes hair look so healthy, also seems cleansing as though dirt is repelled, even fingernails, cuticles get whiter. Thickens beard. Don't think it is anti-dht. masculine sent.

lavender: seems anti-dht, very good note, heals skin, softens beard. balances well with cedar.

Notes

For some reason i think ant-dht topicals make me shed (but could be wrong in analysis and conclusion). Also all of the above essential oils are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal.

Oh yeah, I tried basil but wasn't compelled to use it.

Bay leaf was next on my radar, but i stopped sampling new ones.
