Does Vitamin D wash off the skin? Empty Does Vitamin D wash off the skin?

Post  blueman99 Sun Aug 19, 2012 9:25 pm

I'm not sure but I remember reading a while back that it takes like a day or so for the sunlight on your skin to convert into vitamin d in your body. So I'm guessing its bad to be in the sun all day then take a shower because the vitamin d gets washed off?

I can't find an exact answer on this. Also how much sunlight per day is optimal for good vitamin d levels?

It does wash off.

How much sunlight is needed depends on many factors (where you are from the sun relative to the equator, the time of year, the weather, how much clothes are on, the pigment intensity of the skin).

CS, do you happen to know how long it takes to absorb into the skin?

I never made sense out of that, I thought it only washed off with soaps but not plain water.
Why because when we are out in the sun doing something intense we are sweating in large amounts and then
if this theory were true excessive sweat would wash it off as well, or swimming in the water at the beach etc and most people tend to shower after getting extra sweaty
and being in the sun all day...

Here's another quote from Mercola that implies that water itself, not just washing with soap, will affect vD levels:

"Additionally, you can rub vitamin D3 on your skin and it easily penetrates into your bloodstream (assuming you don't wash it off for 48 hours). This is also likely the reason why surfers in Hawaii who are in the sun and water continuously don't have vitamin D levels comparable to lifeguards that don't go in the water. The surfers typically have levels in the 70s while the lifeguards and others who are in the sun as much without going into the water will have vitamin D levels around 100. The bottom line is that washing the sebum off of your skin is NOT ideal and should be avoided when possible. You were NOT designed to use soap on your entire body. It is fine to wash areas that are prone to bacterial overgrowth such as your axilla (armpits) and groin, but it is in your best interest to leave the sebum that was designed to be on your skin, on your skin."

"Obviously you can do as you wish, but it is my STRONG recommendation to avoid soap on most of your skin."

The best colon cleanse you can get would be by YoungLiving Essential Oils. It is the most gentle and most balanced cleanse you can purchase. You should try it.
