Vitamin D and Skin Pigmentation HELP Empty Vitamin D and Skin Pigmentation HELP

Post  young trunks Sun Sep 24, 2017 6:38 pm

I am deficient in vitamin D from working indoors daily. My skin compared to my siblings is a shade lighter now (nothing dramatic but noticeable). Can this be changed if my vitamin D levels are restored?

I know for fact that I have been deficient in Vitamin D for years as I have hair loss and other symptoms.

Currently I take the majority of IM supplements. I'm only missing MSM and Vitamin D (as weird as it sound). I take Magnesium with D3 in it and High Vitamin Butter oil and fish oil blend with it as well.

Help me figure out how to restore my skin back. Will sunlight really help? I am black btw.

I do not believe Vitamin D supplements will change your skin tone/color. But Vit D supps do have benefits and you are likely better off taking some rather than relying solely on sunlight. Alot of men w/ mpb have lower levels of Vit. D as well as bone density issues than those with less mpb issues. I had blood tests done and have been taking D every since. Maybe you should get blood work done.

There's a good chance *it will* change your skin color. How do I know this? It's based on some research an empirical observation.

Of course, it's preferable to get real UV rays, but this time of year it is nearly impossible unless you live in the southern hemisphere.

CS, I live in Fla. and the only tan areas are my neck, lower arms and legs The body parts concealed from sun have no tan whatsoever. That's my empirical observation. Do you have a citation? I'm taking 1 or 2 of the 5000 IU daily. Maybe I could be even lighter without the D supplements.

Thanks CS I thought it was possible. How much D3 should take per day? I read that black people require more vit D as it is harder to absorb but then I read the opposite as well.

Plenty of citations, but not directly because it covers other factors.

For example erythropoietin (plenty of references here). To understand why that is important, it relates to that, which is a factor. Vitamin D drives erythropoiesis.

Without enough erythropoietin, there is less color in the skin (without that, hair will be limited).

To put it in another way, iron metabolism (not being able to use the iron we already have) is dependent on erythropoiesis. Low facial color is indicative of this.

Beyond that, low Vitamin D will negatively affect ACE (Angiotensin-converting enzyme) in the kidney.

Everyone's got a different level. Not everyone will need it either. But the darker the skin, the more you'll benefit if you've been without direct sunlight.

From the people you have seen improvement in. How long was it before their pigmentation returned?

At least a few months. There are sometimes other reasons for this that have nothing to do with hormone-D, so if nothing changes in about 4 months or so, would consider other culprits.

young trunks, is your diet low in fats? This could be part of the problem as D is fat soluble. Whole or 2% milk has fat. A little coconut or olive oil might help. just a guess.

No my diet is not low nor high in fats. I guess it's average. I am low in vitamin d for not being outdoors due to depression for years.

https://www.vitamindwiki.com/Quick,+free,+self+test+of+vitamin+D+deficiency

I am not completely sure this is more reliable than a simple Vitamin D test, but for me, the pain/soreness they describe disappeared after using a UVB lamp for a few months. so there must be something to it.
