Kidney stones and calcium supplements..plz help
I have a history of kidney stones and my doctor told me to stay away from calcium supplements.. But my alternative doctor told me I get kidney stones because I actually am not getting enough calcium! So, he recommended I take calcium supplements..
There is a study saying ones who take calcium supplements had a 20% greater chance of developing kidney stones..But in a newer study, ones who took calcium supplements actually had a lower chance for kidney stones..
I'm very confused.
Please offer me your opinions...

Re: Kidney stones and calcium supplements..plz help
I'm not sure really... I thought it was FREE calcium that caused them? Like if you get enough magnesium and vitamin D and stuff and don't eat things that cause calcium to be leeched into the blood then it's ok? I thought the trick was to keep the calcium in your bones!
I think as long as you get calcium within balanced and healthy nutrition and diet, you should be ok. Particularly if it comes from healthy, natural sources.
Also, I heard the best thing to prevent kidney stones was watermelon

If he were my doctor, I would ignore his advice and take instead magnesium either malate or chloride form with some B6. Instead of calcium, I would be taking more silica, perhaps in the form of bamboo extract and D3 and K2.
For small stones, I would try chanca piedra (also good for the gallbladder and liver.) For larger stones, I would opt for EDTA, maybe in suppository form.
Try to incorporate more fruits and veggies into your diet, perhaps green smoothies. Also supplementing with shilajit extract, methionine, mixed B vitamins could serve as inexpensive preventatives.
These sound like much better options.
