How come a high dose of omega 3 reduces my hair loss and itching?
Hi everyone,
I have been on the entire IH regimen (almost) for about two months now seeing some improvements, mainly health wise but also a little in regards to hair loss. The last two weeks, when I ran out of Krill oil, I have been using omega 3 with a high level of EPA/DHA instead (some days 8 grams) and noticed that my hair loss and itching slowed down.
My question then is, why does omega 3 work so well on me?
some of my thoughts have been that its helping the sebaceous glands, sebum, reducing estrogen or a omega 3 deficiency... Any other ideas and how can I maybe enhance this positive effect with other supplements? And last, could 8 grams of omega 3 a day be too much and is Krill oil better?

I'm not an expert on the science, but here are some thoughts:
There's some evidence suggesting that high levels of unsaturated fat in the diet can contribute to systemic levels of oxidative stress. Because omega-3 fatty acids generally have more double bonds, they are even more fragile than other types of unsaturated fats, and some people believe that too much can be a problem. 8 grams is a lot. Omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil become damaged during the extraction process, and damaged/processed fats in general should be avoided.
Omega-3 fatty acids are potent modulators of the immune-system. The key is to maintain an optimal balance between omega-6 and omega-3 around 4:1. How much omega-6 are you getting in your diet?
There are naturally occurring antioxidants in krill oil and cod liver oil (astaxanthin and retinol, respectively). This makes them superior to standard fish oil. The EPA/DHA in krill oil also occurs in phospholipid form rather than triglycerides which are found in fish oil. Phospholipids are supposed to be absorbed more efficiently, but I haven't seen the science showing this.

Hey guys, thanks for the responds!
I usually eat quite healthy, so I would imagine that my daily intake of omega 6 isn't too high from food. Also I don't take any supplements containing omega 6.
The thing is, whenever I take 1-2 grams of omega 3, I can feel that a "tingling" sensation in my scalp stops, which I kind of relates to hair loss. Anyone know why that might be? Could It be a good idea to lower my omega 3 intake a bit and also add some good omega 6?
I will try to start the krill oil again soon to see if that might have the same effect. Maybe also cod liver oil would be an idea, although its EPA/DHA ratio isn't very high.
The brand is a "local" brand called Drogen's, bought from a farmacy. Considering the very high price, I hope the quality follows the price...

Many good oils are anti fungal..., high scalp pathogenic activity often is associated with scalp itch...

Hi Mastery,
Which supplements taken internally have anti-fungal properties for the scalp, besides omega 3 and the IH regimen?
