Best Sea Salt? Empty Best Sea Salt?

I'm just finishing off a bag of Celtic Sea Salt and was thinking about re-ordering until a friend starting going on about Himalayan salts. I know the Celtic stuff's good, are there any added benefits to Himalayan?

Best Sea Salt? Empty Re: Best Sea Salt?

Ive heard it's top notch, but I could be wrong. I don't know too much about different types of sea salt other than you should make sure it's unrefined or it can be basically as worthless as table salt.

I just got some pink Himalayan salt from Mountain Rose Herbs. I assumed it would be sea salt but it doesn't say anything about it being gathered from the sea, but mined from the mountains. So I'm curious as to what benefits I might be missing out on and/or any potential harmful effects it may have. Any input?

Yanks - The reason it won't be gathered from the sea is because it is from a primeval sea which evaporated 250 million years (or so) ago. I was looking into this myself yesterday and one suggestion as to why Himalayan may be healthier is that, while good, the Celtic may be subject to pollutants in modern seas. How true or how much difference this makes I don't know.

I found an old post by CS on the subject, in summary he is a fan of both Celtic and Himlayan salts, he believes the Himalayan is a bit more attractive for adding to food but doesn't mention any major health differences.

I thought CS posted a source of salt relatively recently. Something about it being hands down the best. Unfortunately I can't remember the details, but I believe you have to order it online?
