Immortal, why did you stop using DMSO / Lithium. Was it not working anymore for you? Or are you using PC to switch up your regimen?

ganny - I ran out of Lithium and had to order some more.

IM, is it alright if I dump some PM capsules in to the mix? Along with the like of oh say taurine? I heard that its also beneficial for the scalp...Or is there something else with PM I can synergistically use? I really want to amp up the shampoo a little more to maybe inhibit DHT in the scalp and to stimulate hair growth

Swimmy - Sometimes less is more, because mixing too many items can render some inactive.

I'm not aware of topical Taurine being useful--but I could be wrong. As far as I know it should be taken internally.

PM is pretty strong stuff and Lithium works very well in eliminating excess sebum. DMSO makes them more absorbent through the scalp.

Alright one last question regarding.

Can someone explain why everyone is taking lithium?

(I read once that it could cause hair loss.)

Warren - The lithium most people are familiar with is the prescription type for bipolar disorder. However, lithium is a natural mineral and when used in its correct form and dose, it is beneficial rather than toxic.

Prescription lithium carbonate requires a toxic dose in order for it to be effective, and those toxic effects can be thyroid suppressing, which maybe at least be in part responsible for hair loss.

In contrast, small dose lithium in the form of aspartate or orotate have high bioavailability. The chloride form is water soluble and ideal for absorption through the skin. Orotate with DMSO also works even though it is not as soluble in water. Lithium inhibits GSK-3beta which is a primary factor in high sebum. Topical lithium gel is used to fight viruses and seborrheic dermatitis.

Thanks for the reply. That's very interesting. My hair mineral test said that my lithium was super low, so my doctor gave me some organic lithium drops to take. I didn't think the lithium would help my hair loss, and it seemed that it might even hurt my hair, so I didn't take it. Do you think those drops could help my hair loss?

I've been keeping up with the research on lithium for a few years and it continues to surprise.

I would say it would not hurt to add a little lithium. For a greasy scalp I find it to be effective in reducing
sebum.

CS: Back to Lithium. Dr Wright says that lithium orotate helps normalize hyperthyroid. Thus logically, wouldn't it suppress the thyroid and not be good if you suspect you are hypothyroid?

Warren - The type of Lithium used in the trials for hyperthyroid normalization was not the Orotate form, but more importantly, they used high-dose lithium. If you were to take one or two 5 milligram elemental tablets of Lithium orotate there is no risk of thyroid suppression. However, if you were to take Lithium carbonate which is always prescribed at significantly higher doses, such 600 milligrams then there is risk of thyroid suppression.

Yet still, the trials on hyperthyroidism used doses of lithium much higher than the already high amounts of toxic lithium carbonate for regular prescription use.

Do you use this shampoo daily?

1..... - Not so much anymore, with the latest line-up I haven't had any scalp problems in the slightest. I still use the Aubrey shampoo however. If I use anything else my head will itch with those SLS varieties.

I tried the lithium-DMSO topical and ended up with Cystic acne on all over my forehead. I have only used the topical for 4-5 times over the course of 10 days. It was not Cool - the entire forehead seemed like burnt paper. It took about 10 days for the acne to appear. Just something to be aware of...

I have a little dermatitis crisis now, and some lithium orotate on my shelf, I'mthinking of doing a shampoo or topical.

How would you recommend this, mix with good shampoo and wait 5min or do a topical with some water et let it several hours?

fredounet - If you use DMSO, there isn't any need to wait for the lithium to dissolve. Orotate form of lithium is not very water soluble, so the DMSO is probably necessary. Besides that, they work synergistically.

I'm not sure if lithium orotate sans the DMSO will work.

CS: won't DMSO melt some plastic off the shampoo bottle and deliver it to the scalp?

I am looking to make a substitute to the lithioderm ointment they use in France, using Lithium orotate instead of lithium gluconate, because its easier to get.
I was wondering if I would need DMSO would this to be effective, or could I use MSM instead (I have a lot of it lying around) or simply nothing at all? It might be hard for me to get DMSO here in Australia.

Also would I need to change the amount of lithium orotate powder I use compared with the lithium gluconate in the lithioderm cream? I will look at their molecular weights later to compare.

I've been thinking about using a self-tanning lotion on my scalp because it is very white and I don't tan easily. The ingredient in these lotions is Dihydroxyacetone. Even after using a prewash shampoo, would DMSO would drag it into the blood stream and cause problems?

I have problems with hair going white, so these have me worried about using DMSO in a topical. Has anyone ever tried using an ethanol/lithium topical?

As an aside, is there a difference between grey hair and white hair in terms of one having hopes of restoring hair colour via supplements or a topical? My hair doesn't grey, it will just turn white.
