Weight Loss - should I let my hair go and just do it?
Guys, need some help here on ideas for supplements. Trying to keep what I have but want to get in shape and sick of sides from meds and estro.
Since the new year is here and a lot of you have gone towards new diet changes, I wanted to get some advice on good things for weight loss. Obviously the diet changes are a big one which I've already started but I'm also looking at supplements.
As a far as supplements go, anything good that works well and doesn't affect hair loss?
I will say most over the counter formulas cause thinning. Chromium and CLA caused major thinning (probably a blood sugar regulation thing, also things like Guggol, Gymnema Sylvestre, any insulin/sugar lowering supps are out also, don't know if Cinnamon has the same effect since it's an insulin one, but need real cinnamon CASSIA to try it).
Is it weird that all the sugar-lowering supps cause thinning?
Also, I like mag oil but it does yield DHEA ( great for the body, again, causes major thinning ).
So that's my dilemma, any ideas for supps? Many thanks.

Re: Weight Loss - should I let my hair go and just do it?
Whip - I don't believe any of those supplements cause thinning long term, with possible exception to guggul.
I would suggest two supplements in particular to help decrease weight.
(1) Lots of EGCG (from green tea extract). The reason is that it inhibits glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, an enzyme required for adipocyte production and triglyceride formation. Take a strong yield of EGCG with each meal.
(2) A minimum of three tablespoons (I know this sounds like a lot) of raw, extra virgin, organic coconut oil everyday. This can be taken in divided doses. It completely bypasses the liver, is used entirely as energy (has a zero effect on adipocyte formation), increases the metabolic rate up to 25% and helps drive the metabolic system towards burning fat instead of carbohydrate. In addition, it sends powerful signals to appetite suppression.

Go full-on EC: my guess algoran.
Personally, I'm doing DIM at least 3X daily, plus 7Hmr.
I do a hemp shake in the morning--I think less animal fat/protein is the way to go. Sørry fellas but dropping the beef was the best move in my case.
Some of the progesterone on the nut sac that i recommended should turn you back into a lion. (don't worry about mag oil, use it)
Finally, realize that anything with sides is counterproductive.

CS,
I wanted to know what the difference between virgin and extra-virgin coconut oil was, and I found this site http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/what_is_virgin_coconut_oil.htm The picture of the guy using a water buffalo to haul the oil is pretty cool!
They say:
" What is "Extra Virgin Coconut Oil?"
Some retailers and manufacturers of Virgin Coconut Oils, referring to one of the processes mentioned above, call their coconut oil "Extra Virgin Coconut Oil." But there are no other processes used to make coconut oil other than the ones mentioned above, so this classification is simply arbitrary. There is no official classification or difference between "virgin" and "extra virgin" as there is in the olive oil industry, since the two oils are completely different in fatty acid composition, harvesting procedures, and terminology. "
Also from http://www.coconut-connections.com/
"Don't be mislead by the term "extra virgin" when used in conjunction with coconut oil. This term is borrowed from the olive oil industry and there is no such product or existing standard that can be applied to coconut oil production. If you see the term "extra virgin" be assured that it is simply a marketing ploy to encourage you to believe that the oil has something more to offer than virgin coconut oil."
I looked on wiki's entry for coconut oil and they don't mention virgin or extra-virgin- just refined or unrefined. The unrefined would be the virgin. Do you have any info on there being an actual difference? I have bought both virgin and extra-virgin before, and seen both by the same company. At first glance that would look like it couldn't be a marketing thing if the same company is using it, but maybe they are doing that to sell more or keep up with competitors. The question is, what is the difference in the two oils from the same company if they are in fact the same?

Re: Weight Loss - should I let my hair go and just do it?
No problem CS. Your post triggered me to go make some tea with a tablespoon of coconut oil in it. It's good mixed with some stevia. I think I am going to up my intake of it. I'm good about getting the O-3's everyday but not on keeping up the coconut. Since my cholesterol is low it's important. I was also just reading about how it helps to lose weight and improve thyroid function.

jharsh80 - According to Mary Enig, a well known lipid biochemist, coconut oil can raise levels of LDL and HDL cholesterol in those who have low cholesterol counts.

Re: Weight Loss - should I let my hair go and just do it?
Edony,
In general that isn't a bad thing, no. In my specific case CS was referring to the fact that my hdl is good and my ldl is low. When you add those two you get total cholesterol, and mine is below the normal healthy range. So I am trying to increase both hdl and ldl. Ldl has a bad rep in general as being 'the bad cholesterol". In reality there is no bad cholesterol. In fact high cholesterol in and of itself is not a health concern until other factors come into play.

LDL cholesterol is good too, it helps clean out endotoxins in the blood. The only truly bad cholesterol is VLDL or Very Low Density Lipoprotein. The difference between LDL and VLDL is that is that LDL is very buoyant and not as dense and is of little consequence.
Also on the whole, coconut oil will decrease LDL if it's rather high, so think of it as a normalizer.

That's good to know CS. Is there a test for VLDL?
