People with dandruff and digestive issues as well as hair loss
Hi
I think that Androgenetic Alopecia can result from several pathways, but I think one of them (the one I have) goes:
Bad diet / stress -> insulin resistance -> hyperglycaemia -> Candidiasis -> digestive distress -> HPA axis stimulation -> elevated 5alpha-reductase -> elevated tissue DHT -> increased oil production -> infection of oil (probably by the Candida) in the Galea due to decreased blood flow there -> hair loss
So anyway, I want to find other people who also have dandruff and digestive discomfort along with their Androgenetic Alopecia, so that we can work together on how to fix this pathway.
Thanks!

Well, as far as I can tell it's best to make the treatment/cure twofold. On the one hand, blood sugar must be kept lower, ideally by reducing insulin resistance in the cells. On the other, the evidence I've seen does seem to suggest that once Candida is out of control, simply removing the original trigger is not enough and you must also work to kill it off (and possibly also to replenish the beneficial bacteria that should be there).
So erm, this is what I've been researching.
For controlling blood sugar, I've mostly considered:
- A reasonable diet
- Omega 3
- Intermittent fasting
- Apple cider vinegar
And for killing Candida, things like this:
I'm still learning a lot though
Re: People with dandruff and digestive issues as well as hair loss
What's weird too though is that... although mainstream medicine blames fat a lot for diabetes... my diet when all this started was not fat-dominated at ALL. Furthermore, I have always been skinny.
In fact, I would say my weaknesses are carbs (classically grains - lots and lots of grains, and lots of chocolate) and stress.
Now, I believe that both of those do make diabetes more likely - sugar and stress. Stress is via some weird complex mechanism that I don't fully understand yet - I think it's to do with fight or flight.
Sugar/carbs... I'm not sure if it's a tolerance to insulin as a result of over-consumption of carbs, or some kind of inflammation or something that blunts the receptors.
I almost want to say that it's simply a tolerance, simply because the body seems to develop tolerances to almost anything quite easily - alcohol, marijuana, caffeine... why not insulin?
But I'll keep learning!
I am HIGHLY dubious about the fat thing though, at least for ME. For others it seems to fit better. I bought some omega 3 tablets anyway though.

Mainstream is almost always wrong about chronic disease, because they are decades behind in the research.
Improving blood sugar stabilization is very simple to do in most cases.
At the very least, we need the minerals that are missing from our soil to produce enzymes.
Magnesium, chromium, selenium vanadium, sulfur, iodine, zinc, copper, etc.
Virtually everything orthodox medicine does is accelerate the demise of the patient.

Thanks, CS
I think actually now that I think about it more... evidence does seem to suggest that controlling blood sugar does seem to have the potential to stop hair loss and calm down Candidiasis. However... I don't think that it will permanently correct the imbalance. I think it just makes the Candida calm down to a sufficient extent to resume hair growth, have less discomfort and better health, etc. But I think to be back to 100% you need to fully resume the microflora balance in the colon and I think that requires some form of manual intervention such as antifungals and/or probiotics o.O

Yes, a mycotic infection (fungal) is extremely common in many disease/inflammatory states. A variety of natural pro-hair supplements happen to have a inherent anti-fungal nature to them.
The ability to produce glutathione and to have balanced flora is essential for the immune system and to keep fungus/Candidia at bay.
So here's some evidence on the role of trace and macro minerals:

Why not get some kind of candida testing to show that is really the problem or not?

My digestive and dandruff problems did a 180 after I added 50 oz of kefir a day to my regimen. I had anxiety problems stemming from the transient nausea I'd often feel, constant sour stomach like the first stage of heartburn before it travels up, cramping etc. I was taking monolaurin, marshmallow plant, coconut oil, iodine, and the kefir and it was over in three months.

Count me in. Terrible digestion. Really bad skin condition. Probably psoriasis on my elbows and sebborheic dermatitis on my scalp. Super flakey eyebrows and face as well. Going to see a naturopath soon to see if I can figure out any food allergies and whatnot. I'm probably not absorbing nutrients well at all.

Re: People with dandruff and digestive issues as well as hair loss
Count me in to;
- Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face and eye brows (this began post puberty/post acne, around the age of 17)
- Dandruff in my scalp (this began post puberty/post acne, around the age of 17)
- Tinea in between my toes (this began post puberty post acne, around the age of 17)
- Continuous nasal congestion
- Digestion issues (this began post puberty post acne, around the age of 17)
- Itchy scalp
In February 2014 I began IH regimen, and around that time I also became a vegetarian/vegan and eliminated all diary and meat from my diet. Around the end of March to the end of April my hair really thickened up and looked better than it ever did in years. My digestion issues also improved. During May I changed my diet and went back to dairy consuming raw organic milk then later I included meat. My hair suddenly went to shit! It's only recently my digestion has also taken a dive, I've developed anal fissures and I'm also not as regular as I used to be on the veg diet. I went to organic raw milk thinking it was beneficial unfortunately it may be for some, but not me.
Please don't take this diet as something that is a one size fits all, I just found it worked for me and I'm testing it again and journaling it. Also did sauna a couple of times in May not sure if this has anything to do with my hair digressing.
Anyway this is what my diet consisted of:
Breakfast - Organic Pure Harvest Malt Free Soy with espresso coffee - Large glass
Mid Morning meal (banana, orange, pear, apple, kiwi fruit, strawberries) - quite a bit of fruit.
Lunch - Egg salad roll
Dinner - Egg Fritatta with vegies or Roast vegies or bean soap etc
As of Monday the 8th Sept I'm back on this diet. Currently keeping a food journal and tracking the above issues as well as hairs shed per day.

Re: People with dandruff and digestive issues as well as hair loss
Candida is quite easy to recognize without any testing.
Itchy arches/ankles, athletes foot and/or toenail fungus, feeling of malaise/fatigue,
bloating, constipation (or sometimes loose stools), brain fog/memory recall, concentration issues,
skin lesions such as eczema, psoriasis, rashes, anxiety, carbohydrate cravings.
Probiotics can help/kefir, etc for some of these issues as well as minerals.

Re: People with dandruff and digestive issues as well as hair loss
I am positive that fungal infection control is very similar to what works for diabetes. It's where avoiding carbohydrates while having candida statement comes from. I believe insulin and excess glucose in your blood is where you lose the control. IME, It's mostly not about killing the infection, but for the later nutrition can be used - boron works quite well...
I have no other study, but this one on overgrowth on vagina. I speculate it would be quite the same for other parts of the body, where overgrowth occurs.
http://bipublication.com/files/IJABR-V4I3-2013-06.pdf
It also protect you against aflatoxins.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2873987/
Quality source of coconut oil will also fight the infection - both topically and internally.
All in all. It's a manageable situation, that requires a bit persistence with zero cheating, since one can easily run in circles. Taxes for a cheat are payed in next few days, since candida requires 3 full days to spread while a cheat with alcohol or excess carbohydrates was introduced. IMO.

Thanks for the replies, everyone
On the topic of kefir - I am always uneasy about probiotics because they have to go through the small intestine, and the small intestine is supposed to be relatively low in microflora and could be damaged by all of these bacteria and stuff passing through it... couldn't it?

Re: People with dandruff and digestive issues as well as hair loss
OK erm, just did a lil bit o' quick research!
Right erm, at this point in time I really think that apple cider vinegar is the ticket. It's just got SO many good testimonials, it walks all over other stuff in terms of tried and tested and proven results.
http://www.earthclinic.com/cures/diabetes-type-ii-treatment.html
I read all of the testimonials, it seems that around 3-6 tablespoons diluted in water (and ideally through a straw as it's v acidic and can damage tooth enamel) throughout the day but especially before and during meals is the best bet for lowering blood sugar and thereby controlling Candida and therefore androgenetic alopecia.
So um... yah these are the current findings and views of Hoppi ^_^
Oh, and it seems good to get a quality ACV such as Bragg's or maybe ones like Biona in the UK. Bragg's seems the #1 recommended brand.
Dunno HOW much that matters but... I mean hey they're all pretty budget.
Apparently the acetic acid is the magic ingredient for blood sugar control, but at this point in time I personally am not sure. I know malic acid is pretty magical too!
Peace out, dudes! ^_^

Re: People with dandruff and digestive issues as well as hair loss
I think I'll go for 4 tablespoons throughout the day of high quality (probably Bragg's) ACV in a pint of water per tablespoon.
I'll see what happens after a month or two of that, see if my body seems to be coping better! And of course I'll consume carbs in controlled amounts only within a relatively short time of one of the ACV doses
