Coming off Dutasteride - Page 4 Empty Off dutasteride

Post  ataman Mon Nov 29, 2010 3:10 am

Hi all,

Well, I've been off dutasteride altogether for about a month now. For anyone who has followed this post all the way through, it has been a slow process to stop taking the drug altogether.

I had been on either finasteride or dutasteride for almost 15 years (I believe I was one of the first in the UK to legally be prescribed finasteride for hair loss), so I was very wary of stopping. - The main reasons were a.) that myself and the wife are thinking about kids; b.) that I just wasn't comfortable taking a strong prescription drug for a cosmetic problem; and c.) that there is a fair bit of evidence that, at some point, your body will adjust to dht blockers and you will start losing hair again.

So how is the non-drug treatment protocol going? So far, quite well, but my regimen is quite extensive. I'm also not clear exactly when the dutasteride will have left my system entirely. Essentially, the protocol below is dynamic...this may or may not solve my hair loss issues for good, and if not I will continue to tweak as necessary. Conversely, if I feel that all is going well, I will stop the things I feel are helping least. The less I need to take/apply, the better.

Regimen as follows:

Topical:
Polysorbate 80 massaged in before shower most mornings.
Alternate between PIO and Nizoral shampoo in the shower
Minox + Az Acid + Joe's hair-muck (all one solution morning and night)
Nizoral cream to hairline 3x per week
Lasercomb 2 or 3 x per week. Very low power version - effects probably minimal.

Oral
LEF Ultra-natural Prostate Formula (I capsule 5-6 x per week)
A good probiotic ED
Curcumin + Resveratrol ED
Kelp ED
Vitamin D 5000iu (EOD)
A good multivitamin ('Maxi-hair') ED
Ginkgo Biloba (3-4 x per week)
Toco-8 ED
Fish Oil 1000mg
Grape Seed Extract 100mg

I may also start taking Rhodiola during the winter - more for mood than hair, but I believe this is also beneficial to hair.

I take at least one day off every two weeks for all supplements (but not all on the same day). Just my belief that it's good to give your body a break from almost anything.

Not specifically for hairloss, but beneficial to it, is that I have always had a good diet and exercised regularly at the gym (HIIT - hurts like hell but good for insulin management). I have near zero body fat.

Will update if there are any changes, good or bad, otherwise will post again in a month or two. Happy to answer any questions. Good luck all.

Coming off Dutasteride - Page 4 Empty Off the drugs

For anyone interested, I believe I am finally off the hair-loss drugs for good. Instead of duplicating here, please see the 'Supplements have not replaced dutasteride' thread.
