Teeth Whitening - Safe Solution

Anyone recommend a safe teeth whitening solution?

This is the best toothpaste I have used to date:

I am sort of looking for one of those paste and guard things but will definitely look into that toothpaste.

IH or anyone on the safest bleaching agent?

I also use that toothpaste as my teeth began cracking.

I had a chip once, which thankfully my dentist corrected to the point where it cant be perceived even by me, but the marketing behind this toothpaste is on the money. My teeth are stronger than ever since using, and the hygenist was all subtle about using it--gave me as sample, but no comment. My four cavities aren't enough, clearly they want more. Honestly, I see no reason to use another toothpaste--even for kids: solid product.

Without anything else, I've seen my teethe whiten a bit on this product alone.

I've been wondering the same thing, what is the best natural way to whiten teeth.

Over the years I have tried various things, but often found that there was potential to erode tooth enamel or was a bit harsh.

Since we're on the subject of teeth, is it really necessary to have your teeth cleaned twice per year? Can it actually cause more harm than good?

GoodThings - I think it's totally unnecessary. Probably the best book ever written on nutrition and the health of teeth, which is the window into whole body health is Nutrition & Physical Degeneration." In it, there are pictures of teeth of both people on a primitive diet and also of a "civilized foods" diet. Peoples who had had a "primitive" diet had died with perfectly intact teeth, no cavaties, no malformations of the jaw bones, no crowding of teeth, no need whatsoever for dental intervention.

Once the primitives began to eat the "civilized" foods their health and their teeth became like those who go to dentists.

The issue with tooth decay is not nutrition, it is acid. Most on the western diet have adequate nutrition but eat acidic foods.

This is where most posters are at. I'm quite sure in all due respect.

Not sure if you guys are aware but that Sensodyne Pronamel contains Fluoride. Personally I would stay as far away from anything that has fluoride in it. I have been on a more natural toothpaste for 2+ years and haven't looked back.

Oil pulling with the right oil is definitely one of the safest ways to whiten your teeth.

Your teeth won't get extremely white like Crest white strips will, but oil pulling is definitely one of the best things you can do for your teeth or gums.

I'll second the oil pulling. I don't nearly do it as often as I would like but my mouth always feels really clean after I do it a couple days in a row. Basically you oil pull for about 20 minutes, rinse out your mouth really well with water and then brush your teeth. I think this works because some stains may not be water soluble.

Also on another subject, check out FIG. 52. The Aborigines of Australia are recognized to be the oldest living race of mankind. Note the prominent eyebrows and deep set eyes. The man at the upper right is holding his spears and wamara, or spear thrower. They are very fond of decorations on their bodies. Little baldness was seen even in the very old.

CS--Interesting..not sure how I would apply it. But down the line if teeth take a turn i will certainly consider.

My cavities are a direct result of negligence, in that the cause was not flossing--happened symetrically on back to back teeth. My attitude was that I was immune to cavities. Of course now i floss at least once daily.

The only other problem i had was from a particularly acidic brand of wine that I overindulged in.

I guess Sensodyne is pretty mainstream. But I am happy with it, as it provides room for my indulgence and is easy.

Gibson - Just today I saw a commercial for a toothpaste that advertised it cuts down the acids, so I guess we're both right. What is life without indulgence? I think I'll give it a shot.

If it's instant white teeth you want try using baking soda. I know you probably shouldn't use it constantly, but it's good.

Anybody interested in this, this is how I got my pearly whites :

Try Arm and Hammer baking soda and hydrogen peroxide you can get off a drug store. Drug store hydrogen peroxide is anywhere from 2% to 3.5%. Mix the two and make a paste, brush your teeth with it 3-4 times a week, leave on for 20 minutes. It helps if you don't drink coffee or tea, I take neither. Foolproof way to get white teeth within a month or so.
First time you use the mixture it burns a lot, don't be put off by that, keep using it, it works for sure.

On the subject of teeth, are amalgam fillinsg dangerous?

Some findings suggest that long term use of bleaching agents such as hydrogen peroxide could cause enamel problems and tooth decay.

cpio: I don't think amalgam should be inside the body, especially not in the mouth. It does a good job as a filler..perhaps a little too good..?
