Elimination diets and lowering gut distress (to stop hair loss)
Hi guys
I'm under the impression that calming the gut can halt hair loss in those that got AGA at roughly the same time as IBS, probably via serotonin and/or histamine and the HPA axis.
Anyone else trying this?
My whole diet right now is chicken and white rice and my gut seems very calm.
I'll very carefully add more later.
Any thoughts on this?
Cheers guys!
Hoppi
EDIT -- Oh, and thank you JDP for the rice and meat idea - I was browsing your posts!
Oh, and I do also have sugar and salt water to keep my sugar cravings at bay and sodium levels high enough. With sugar I melt it into syrup with water on the hob then add it to my mineral water

I thought about doing something similar to this. Just hard to keep to eating certain foods when your always on the go. My hairloss started near the time I began having IBS symptoms as well.

I would say the gut is key in MPB. For some it might even be the culprit, however, we all know it's never that simple. CS and JDp think so as well. From personal experience, my hair thickened up among other health benefits when following gaps for a few months. It was noticeable. I've been craving bone broth lately, good stuff.

Absolutely.
I'll let you know how I get on anyway.
It is tricky - I brought rice and chicken to a friend's today when I went over with some other friends to hang out and it went fine.

I'm sorry but personally I disagree with you. I think for people who got MPB at the same time as IBS the hormonal component really IS that simple.
Serotonin/histamine -> CRH -> ACTH
And then the stress response through one of the hormones upregulates the DHT enzymes.
Why does it have to be more complex?

It doesn't really, only every person is completely different and the causes of MPB can vary widely just like CS has said for many years. I don't think it's rational to assume the gut is the only culprit even in those with IBS. The culprit/symptoms/diagnosis of "IBS" are broad and vague just how the medical system likes them IMO. Fixing the gut may not be enough for those who have lived with such conditions for many years.

Are you basing this off of DRoddy /Peat?

Not only them.
And of course other things can stimulate the HPA axis or increase things like DHT and DHEA, but in people with IBS I can't think of an alternative hormonal chain... can you?
