Salt Loading - How to?
Hi,
I know this has been addressed here many times before, but I am a little confused.
So salt loading is done for safety reasons when supplementing with iodine. So we stop supplementation with iodine and begin salt loading (strange term). On a superficial level, it seems like we need to consume a lot of salt. But we are advised to use Celtic salt, which in itself is iodine. This seems like a contradiction, since we are doing the salt loading because of the dangers of the iodine supplement we are taking.
Also, I am a little confused with all this, filtered water, pure water etc. The type of water I usually drink is bottled water.
So, how is this "salt loading" carried out? Do we just take some selenium, vitamin C(min 1 gram), magnesium, and celtic salt?
Would appreciate the clarification.
Thanks,
Mike

Essentially it's the sodium chloride that is needed for the loading. Chloride flushes out the bromide/bromine.
It's the bromide that causes a lot of detox effects when iodine fortification is employed.
It doesn't have to be Celtic salt either. One can use Morton's pickling and canning salt (which is devoid of the fillers in typical sodium chloride or standard table salt). Also there is Wright Salt as well, which is probably the best in terms of safety. The amount of iodine in salt is so small, and so poorly absorbed it really doesn't matter.
The link at the top should explain the rest.

Re: Salt Loading - How to?
Thanks for the fast response CS.
I've taken a look at the thread. I guess I am looking for a short step-by-step how to.
So from that thread link it mentions this:
1- 1/4 teaspoon salt dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water. Follow immediately with 12-16 oz pure water.
Repeat in 30-45 minutes if needed. May repeat again until copious urination begins.
2- Vitamin C - 3,000 mg per day (more may be necessary to detox bromide).
3- 300-600 mg magnesium oxide or comparable magnesium supplement.
4- 200 mcg selenium.
5- 500 mg niacin (B3) twice a day. (NOT niacinamide) Start lower to avoid flush.
6- 100 mg Vitamin B2 three times a day.
It's seems like all the six steps is what we are referring to the salt loading protocol, even though number 1 is the main thing and the others are additional things.
Thanks

Re: Salt Loading - How to?
Steps 5 & 6 apply to Hashimoto's or ATP problems. (low energy).
This step can be skipped if neither apply.

Re: Salt Loading - How to?
CS,
Do you recommend a minimum salt loading period?
Also to clarify do you cease salt loading once you instigate iodine?
Thanks

Re: Salt Loading - How to?
When starting my regimen and looking to improve my health I ingested a shit ton of salt in some OJ (wanted to experiment after reading some of ray peats work) and had a really crazy detox reaction shortly afterwards while playing basketball. I was so sick I was lying on the floor sweating thought I was going to die.

Re: Salt Loading - How to?
So if I do salt loading after iodine administration, will it render it ineffective? Or can you use at as many times as u want, for avoiding detox symptoms?

Re: Salt Loading - How to?
Are you sure about this, because thre are some studies saying is mostly the Sodium: "Hence, we have proved our hypothesis that the biological half-life of bromide depends on the magnitude of sodium intake rather than on the intake of chloride." ...http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15717853CausticSymmetry wrote:Chloride flushes out the bromide/bromine.
Actually, this is the site giving that info: http://synergyhw.blogspot.be/2013/07/should-people-with-adrenal-fatigue-be.html
