What is your absolute favorite protein powder?
I am looking for a protein powder that simply tastes great and that easily mixes with water.
It could be hemp based, whey based, whatever works.
Also something that doesn't contain any splenda (sucralose), aspartame, ACE-K, or excessive amounts of fructose or sugar.

Hey for once I get to answer one of your questions!
I have a few recs-
NOW makes a pretty good Whey Protein Isolate that tastes ok - has Fructose (9g of sugar per serving) and Stevia:
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=754&at=0
For Egg Protein there's this one:
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=12914&at=0
Has stevia and no fat, no sugar, no starch, no salt, no cholesterol, no carbohydrate, no synthetic coloring, no artificial sweetener, no coal tar derivatives.
Taste is OK, but not as good as the first one.
For Rice Protein I just tried this one which was recommended by Mike Adams:
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=4719&at=0
It may be a healthoer choice according to Adams, but it has a really bland taste and the problem with these rice / hemp proteins is you dont get a very good 'grams of protein per dollar'.
You could also check out Jay Robb's protein powders. I haven't tried them yet, but he's got the right idea in terms of what to include and what not to include in the powders.
http://www.jayrobb.com/jayRobbProtein.asp
Lastly, if cost is not an issue, you can go over to Protein Factory and make your own. With a little experimentation you might just come up with something that is tastes better and has better nutritional makeup than anything else out there .

Sorry - I posted the wrong link on the first one. The NOW Whey Protein ISOLATE is a staple in my Protein shake regimen.

Hey IH--
Well, I do love NutraBio.com's stuff as I'm sure you recall me plugging plenty of times in the past.
However, my next protein is going to be organic, grass-fed whey. That "whey" we can avoid the insulin spikes or any other negatives associated with pasteurized dairy products.

Re: What is your absolute favorite protein powder?
Hi IH,
My absolute favorite is the whey protein from Life Extension (whey + stevia + lactoferrin). I used to take Vanilla but I've noticed that they added a new "Berry" flavor. I want to try that.
It mixes extremely well with water.

hemp, spirulina or rice.
Whey is a bio-product of the milk industry and is not a "health food".

Re: What is your absolute favorite protein powder?
Thanks a ton! Even though I don't mind whey protein especially if it comes from grass-fed, non-hormone cows, I like the idea of hemp protein, spirulina or rice (exactly as sublime recommended).
I don't have any grand plans other than something that tastes great when there isn't much time to get something together.
So that being said, taste in this case is paramount if the above conditions exist.
So far, I found this one that I will try

I'm going to order a few others also just to compare.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acesulfame_potassium
Safety concerns
As with aspartame, saccharin, sucralose, and other sweeteners that are sweeter than common sugars, there is concern over the safety of acesulfame potassium. Although studies of these sweeteners show varying and controversial degrees of dietary safety, the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has approved these for use as general-purpose sweetening agents. Critics of the use of acesulfame potassium say the chemical has not been studied adequately and may be carcinogenic, although these claims have been dismissed by the USFDA[5] and by equivalent authorities in the European Union.[6]
Several potential problems associated with the use of acesulfame have been raised. They are based largely on animal studies since testing on humans remains limited. The findings showed the following:
Acesulfame K stimulates insulin secretion in a dose dependent fashion thereby possibly aggravating reactive hypoglycemia ("low blood sugar attacks").
Acesulfame K apparently produced lung tumors, breast tumors, rare types of tumors of other organs (such as the thymus gland), several forms of leukemia and chronic respiratory disease in several rodent studies, even when less than maximum doses were given. According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, it was petitioned on August 29, l988 for a stay of approval by the FDA because of "significant doubt" about its safety.
Research under National Toxcicology Program shows that the chemical could be safe to consume if the concnetration in any edible form is less than 3%.[7]

Check the Ori thread for a swansons protein powder I posted. (can't cut and paste at the moment)
Also, that protein powder you found looks really good. I've never been into protein powder powders, but I am tempted to try both.

Gibson - The funny thing is, what prompted me to ask this question was after reading the Ori interview with Swanson in the Swanson catalog. Lee Swanson said that the Senior Protein Powder was the best tasting protein powder he ever had.
I couldn't find it for sale on Swanson's probably too new at the time, but I figured I could find something else. So far I really like this one:

CS, Have you been using this protein since, and how do you like it?
Why don't you like whey protein, is it that the grass-fed ones are too pricey or is there a negative effect on hair loss?

Re: What is your absolute favorite protein powder?
Guys, I use Nutiva Hemp Protein + Fiber: http://www.iherb.com/Nutiva-Organic-Hemp-Protein-Fiber-3-lbs-1-36-kg/11230?at=0
It gets the job done, but I actually find the taste to be pretty terrible (surprised there's so many positive reviews, although some mention the taste). It's also pretty gritty.
They also have one with less fiber and more protein: http://www.iherb.com/Nutiva-Organic-Hemp-Protein-50-3-lbs-1-36-kg/12647?at=0
I'm hoping this one is less gritty, but I have to finish off my current batch first before I try it.
The best thing about these protein powders is affordability. You get 3 lbs which lasts a while (plus, they're cheaper on Amazon). However, I'm interested in possibly trying other, better tasting powders. The one CS linked looks pretty good, although it's a bit more expensive by the ounce. Anybody else have plant based proteins to recommend?

Other then kefir whey, I believe this protein product to be the best out there, with regards to health. As far as taste goes, you can do better.

This is my latest favorite plant-based protein powder
http://www.iherb.com/Life-Time-Life-s-Basics-Plant-Protein-Unsweetened-Vanilla-Flavor-1-lb-05-oz-477-g/23361?at=0
It is unsweetened, I add to it unsweetened chocolate/cocoa powder and some honey or a banana, nuts, seeds, and of course coconut milk. It needs a blender to mix otherwise it'll clump.
It is awesome, low carb, double the amount and you get a dessert-type chocolate smoothy. Has some omega 3 and 6.
what do you think?

Re: What is your absolute favorite protein powder?
Humapro is the cleanest, speeds up my recovery after workouts and even when I take a break from the gym for long periouds, it helps me maintain my muscle tone longer.
Other proteins i have tried include Whey, Whey Isolates and Hemp.
Hemp I enjoy for the taste and fiber.

Re: What is your absolute favorite protein powder?
I have never done well on almost any protein shakes I've ever taken, from cheap to expensive.
Id always end up with headaches or diarrhea or something, I even took a Now foods pea protein that I thought would be
good since it was non dairy, non soy, non gmo, non msg, but turns out to have massive msg in it because I got weird 30 minute
headaches after taking it and my diet over the past couple years has made me become very msg sensitive...
The only one I've ever taken that has agreed with my body is this one Garden of Life Raw Organic protein powder-
Costed me like 25$ at whole foods. Supposedly has probiotics in it also, though a weakish amount of protein ( I had to take two scoops )it did make me feel like I had increased energy. I'll probably rebuy soon...
(Add a W on that, says I cant post links yet because I'm too new )
