TH2 Imbalance, Methylation Cycle, Gut Bacteria
I have recently come across a topic that is totally new to me, but I believe it to be huge, given the immune component of MPB and inflammation. Apparently, immature lymphocytes are triggered to either become TH1 or TH2 cells depending upon the interleukin signal they receive. IL-12 signals the lymphocyte to become a TH1, and IL-10 signals it to become TH2. A TH1 lymphocyte helps with intracellular immunity, or cell mediated immunity. The TH2 cell deals with humoral, extracellular immunity. TH2 cells increase the amount of antibodies produced, and in cases when the immune system is imbalanced, someone can become TH2 Dominant, and their bodies will attack many extracellular items mistakenly, including tissues and food stuffs.
Apparently many types of viruses can secrete an IL-10 mimic, causing you to be TH2 dominant. http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C104791.html In any case, it appears that many people with autoimmunity might be TH2 dominant. Dr. Cheney recommends Inosine and Pine Cone Extract because they shift from TH2 back to TH1, because being dominant in one suppresses the other.

I am extremely interested in this so if anyone has any more information that would be great. I am especially interested given how this could tie in with methylation deficiencies and gut bacteria. Some species of lactobacillus are key for the body to maintain balance in TH1 and TH2, so those of us with poor gut bacteria (or not breast fed as children) might be predisposed to TH2 dominance. Methylation deficiencies produce too many B cells, another hallmark of TH2 dominance. I need to make the connection here. Being dominant in one or the other results in autoimmunity, the difference is what immune cells are doing the attacking. I could also be responsible for many people's thyroid issues.

If there's immune reactivity it means one is either low on stomach acid or they should lay of one or both of wheat/gluten and dairy.

Speaking of that. A quality bovine colostrum supplement will supply the "transfer factor" while boosting thymic functioning.
