My mom is 67. She recently experiences some sudden rapid hairloss and we don't know what is the root of the loss.

For her background : she has polyarthritis so she has is treated for that since long time (with methotrexate).
That for sure doesn't help your hair but she has only seen some minor diffuse loss since taking this treatment years ago.

Since 3 weeks though ... she loses so much hair she's scared of shampooing ... (we all experienced that here I guess ...)

We're trying to find out what could cause this.
Recently she was ill so she was given some strong antobiotics.
Could it be the cause for this rapid hairloss ?

What kind of supplements can she safely take ... who would help her hair ? biotin ?

Thank you

Mike

Its possible the antibiotics caused some hair loss. I think that some antibiotics have hair loss side effects. It might be a good idea for her to take an acidophilous supplement to get her intestinal bacteria back in balance. The antiobiotics probably caused some yeast overgrowth on the inside. It sounds like she is on medication but I believe acidophilous is safe to take with medication. Ask her doctor to be sure. Multidophilous by Solaray is a good one.
