Maca Powder
I've started using Red Maca powder about a week now and i recently started adding whey protein along with red maca, water and drink it as a shake before i work out. I only use 1 teaspoon of Maca powder. Should i be using more?

Re: Maca Powder
IH,nidhogge,
is red maca superior to normal maca?If yes,do you know any good source of red maca?(one that sends cheap to Europe,as well ! )
Should I opt for gelatinized or just raw maca?I've read that gelatination process concentrates the maca sterols making it much more effective.

Re: Maca Powder
I'm not sure which form of Maca is best, as the studies suggest it doesn't seem to matter. Quantity is important, so taking a lot of it is a good idea. Personally I take 1,500 milligrams of maca each time. Some take more.
Re: Maca Powder
u are reffering to gelatinized or raw maca ?
You just take 1.5 gr /day? I usually take 1-2 tsp/day of gelatinized maca powder . too much?It s been a month now.Haven't noticed much to be honest.

Re: Maca Powder
I noticed more of a difference when I jacked up my dosage significantly to a few teaspoons of red maca a day. I haven't taken it in some time, but I think sublime recommended the Red Maca from naturalzing.com, and that is what I used. I liked the taste too!
No clue on the gelatinisation process though...haven't researched it.

Re: Maca Powder
I take raw red maca at about 2 - 2.5 Tablespoons a day.
Red maca has studies behind it although I am unsure of the difference between the white and red maca as more research is needed. I have been on red maca exclusively for a couple months so I plan on switching back to the white maca on my next order.

Re: Maca Powder
If I recall, gelitanized maca has all of the fiber removed, so it is a concentrate: I think 4 to one.

Nidhogge,
Where is that link for red maca you mentioned? I put it naturalizing.com and got an immigration site! : )
Here are 2 links I found. Has anyone tried these sources for red maca?
http://www.macaweb.com/?pid=products_01_
http://www.amazon.com/Red-Maca-Powder-16-Ounce-Organic/dp/B00168FWQM/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1224120322&sr=1-21
I need some maca right now to get through this presidential debate!

Re: Maca Powder
Navitas is a brand that stamps their name on many products--from nuts to goji to maca, etc.
They're just distribute poorly sourced stuff cheaply. I've noticed a lack of quality in their products.

Haha, NaturalZing.com, not naturalIzing.com Do a search on there if you'd like and you'll find Red Maca.

Re: Maca Powder
Hi,
last week I read something about STOMACH DISCOMFORT caused by MACA powder.
Iam a victim of this discomfort too:(
I´ve been using Maca powder about 2 weeks...
My havent felt good (daily diarrhorea)...
Yesterday i didn´t take maca and the symptoms left.
But today I took (about 3 gr.) and diarrhorea is here!
Does anyone have the symptoms?
Should I continue to take Maca?
Or shoul I reduce the dose?(One tablespoon seems not too much)
Thanks!

Re: Maca Powder
tommash,
One tablespoon sounds a lot to me. I took 2 teaspoons and it had quite a dramatic effect on libido, but sadly did not help my hair. I liked how it made me feel but it made my hair recede at the front a little.
It does seem to work well for most folk (from what I have read), so if you still have problems with a smaller amount, or you could try a different brand, or a different colour.

Re: Maca Powder
Maca almost seems like a natural test booster, and for some reason, I've not seem one positive hair feedback on this forum regarding hair. However, it stands to reason that if you are vulnerable to DHT (and we all mostly are), then an increase in test either naturally or artificially will be result in more DHT production as well. Who knows, just talking out loud here...

Hi, I experienced this aswell, but it was at time when I was using some cheap low quality maca powder. I switched to better one organic red maca, but the discomfort remained (it was not that bad, but still..) So I started kind of chewing the maca powder for a while in mouth and then flush it down with water, guess what? the discomfot disappeared, this could work for you.

Re: Maca Powder
I second the stomach discomfort when I was using a good quality organic red maca. Nothing major, but enough where I had to wait an hour to go to the gym at least.

Re: Maca Powder
MasterExploder
Thanks a lot.
Well I chewed it for a while (about 2-3 minutes) in my mouth and then flushed it with full glass of water...
But 15 - 30 min. later I noticed the discomfort...
Maybe i should switch on another brand of maca...
I have been using Santa Natura brand.
Does anybody know it?
If yes please share your experiences with it...

Rob--
Internally, it's shown no promise as a hair-growth promoter from what I've seen around here. I will be, however, running a free trial on this forum for topical usage of Seveov's Maca if you're interested. Well, wait till the announcement...this is in the near future though. Seveov's research indicates strong hair loss prevention properties from Maca.
