Re: resveratrol/curcumin alternative
Do you have a source for them being able to cause inflammation in some people? I've never read that before but I'd be interested in more info of course, I've been taking the combo for a little over a year now and don't wan to continue if there's a chance it will/is have a negative effect

Re: resveratrol/curcumin alternative
Personally I've never been a fan of Dr. Kharrazian's work, largely because he manages thyroid symptoms closer to the orthodox system of medicine.
The context of this T1/T2 helper cells applies to autoimmune thyroid. However, research actually shows these compounds to be beneficial and the explanation of the balance of these is a hypothesis, it's not proven.
The bodies innate regulation of T1 and T2 helper cells is from the thymus gland. What regulates this? The mineral zinc.

Re: resveratrol/curcumin alternative
CS,
you mention zinc...should one be having more or less to help with the regulation of th1/th2?...
Whenever I eat curcumin I always get inflammation...I dropped most of my th2 boosting supplements and added in th1 boosting supplements to lower inflammation.

It's an interesting question, however there's a few problems with the premise. Because hair loss is not limited to one particular insult and the degree of advancement of each individual's hair loss will be different, a single substance it not easy to gauge an effect. 6-months is a very short period of time in terms of results.
The main point though is that curcumin works best when combined with other substances, namely resveratrol. It will work even better if there are sufficient sulfur compound in the diet, with some fatty acids (marine oils) and vitamin D.
So this combination provides a more powerful synergy.
All that being said, curcumin (preferably with resveratrol) isn't the only thing that helps.
For example there is Scutellaria baicalensis and Ecklonia Cava plus a variety of difficult to acquire substances that have been published.

There's a few schools of thought on this. First, I'll mention the zinc. Zinc is critically important for a number of reasons, and its importance goes far beyond just Th-1/Th-2 balance, which is governed by the thymus gland. Zinc can recapitulate thymus size back into early puberty. After puberty, the thymus gland goes through a process called thymic involution (shrinkage) and it radically reduces to the size of a pea by the time an average person hits 40. This does have an impact on hair. See study below on the immune factor of zinc.

Further, zinc also is a safe, 5-AR inhibitor and most importantly increases IGF-1, which is necessary for hair to grow.
There is a significant segment of the hair loss population whose hair loss is further complicated by gut problems and this will limit their zinc absorption.
Dating back in the late 90's I had some personal problems with curcumin. I had headaches after I would ingest it, although the research kept growing. Eventually these headaches went away.
Another school of thought is through the lens of the school of Ayurveda. So if curcumin is a problem, it could very well be that it may go against the dominant dosha that one falls into. The three doshas include Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Generally speaking Pittas can be aggravated by spicey foods, so that's some "food for thought." Here is a test below that gets into more detail.
