Scalp Lymphodema - CS how can we tackle it? Empty Scalp Lymphodema - CS how can we tackle it?

Recently I've seen a whole bunch of people talking about the scalp bump and various things that reduce it from Sodium Chloride to massage.

I've come to a few conclusions:

  • The scalp bump / ridge is real
It is not bone - but moveable 'tissue'
It can be reduced with massage - work hard enough and you can shift it in a few hours

I think that the above can be classed as facts. I'm really surprised there is virtually no literature talking about what this bump is.

It could be argued that everyone has this tissue bump (my own opinion is that it correlates with hair-loss severity) - but if that's the case I would expect to see more data about it.

I've written about this before and people will claim that this is bone or skull remodelling. It is not and has nothing to do with that.

We are talking about tough tissue that can be made pliable and then the size of it reduced through manual pressure.

CS - I can at least speak for myself in that I can flatten out the ridge in around an hour - and if I do it in the middle of the ridge only, you can see and feel the depression (I estimate about .25cm depth). It appears to take around 24 hours to return. However, I also believe that each time I break this tissue down, it become easier to manipulate.

Whilst all of this is rather lacking any precision - the only medical condition I can find that comes close is mild lymphodema.

This is supported by the fact that I can massage the bump away. I don't believe that reducing the bump simply redistributes the fluid - as it takes too long to bounce back, versus pressing on tissue elsewhere.

This leads me to suspect that I am actually engaged in massage that aids lymphatic drainage.

If this is lymphodema (in its most generic sense) then it may be a cause, symptom or causally related to our hair loss.

What I do know is that without the scalp ridge my skull shape is actually great. I suspect that a lot of other people would see the same.

So - assuming we wanted rid of the scalp bump - regardless of its impact on hairloss - what could we do?

In other words CS - what could be the cause of slow lymphatic drainage in the scalp, versus normal drainage elsewhere. Are there any things we can add or remove, supplement or food wise that could help with this fluid to keep flowing freely and not back up?

It could be from a form of Folliculitis. One example (more extreme is) Folliculitis decalvans.

It could be iatrogenic (caused by some procedure).

If it's genetic then there's a gene called FOXC2. When overexpressed can cause problems (Resveratrol and Quercetin might help).

There's also mutations of these gene in 36% of cases.

FLT4, GJC2, SOX18, GATA2, CCBE1, and PTPN14

In primary lymphedema involves a single functional pathway of VEGFR3 signaling

In any case, would suggest you try Sodium Selenite.

Would also try various things for venous blood flow, Diosmin, grape seed extract, Butcher's Broom Root, Vitamin K2, etc.
