Re: Whats for Breakfast?
I just have a little bit of brocolli or cauliflower, and an apple for breakfast. I try to keep it light in the morning so I have a lot of energy for the 12 mile bike ride to class.

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
Espio, you prefer a low intact at morning? Don't you get tired during the day by doing like this?

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
hemp protein and maca shake with soy milk and or keifer and two organic eggs - all blended, with a couple drops of ioding ae and a handful of oats. The oats makes you chew your shake down, so you start your digestive process in your mouth.

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
Misirlu, it's the opposite. If I eat too much fatty foods in the morning it makes me tired. Slow burning carbs like brocolli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower give me lasting energy. If I eat some sardines for breakfast I just feel slugglish on my 12 mile bike ride to class, and then when I get to class (construction class building a home) I'm really lazy when I try to work.
But as far as goes for hair... who knows, I haven't been very successful in fighting my hair loss. So I might be going the wrong direction

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
Espio,
I don't eat breakfast either. Maybe an apple. My empty stomach supps. Coffee.
If I work out, lunch gets pushed back to 2pm--the last thing you want to do is eat before bikram. That said, I make sure I have enough electrolytes. I cannot get enough potassium, it seems. So fruit am is helpful, particularly coconut water.
I suppose I could train myself to fast at night, but I'm not interested.

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
Usually Granola with dried cranberries/raisins, almonds, walnuts and using vanilla rice milk.
Sometimes I opt for a shake which usually contains: Banana, rice milk, rice protein, spirulina, chlorella, cinnamon and raw honey (or grade B maple syrup).
Usually have a nice glass of green tea or Yerba Mate to go along with it... that is if I am feelin a little morning blues.

That's the old saying, but I really do wonder what the best eating strategy is. The way I see it, there are three options that seem to all have merit.
1) As the saying recommends, a large breakfast, medium-large lunch, and small dinner... argument being that you burn calories in daytime hours, so that's when you need them.
2) A strategy similar to the warrior diet, where you eat a very small breakfast, lunch and large dinner... argument being that your body has more energy when it's not digesting food all day, as well as your body being able to more efficiently detoxify when "fasting."
3) As the majority of diet plans urge, to eat 5-6 even meals throughout the day, each containing a similar portion of protein, fat, and carbs... argument being that frequent eating of smaller, evenly portioned meals revs your metabolism throughout the day, and your body is best able to utilize the nutrients this way.
Any thoughts from everyone?

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
I'm really super hungry when I wake up early. I can eat extreme amounts. However, if I wake up later or skip the early breakfast, I tend to eat much less breakfast later on, like 2-3 hours later. Not sure why and not sure what's the best strategy.

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
Okay this doesn't have much to do with breakfast, but I just ate a whole 12 inch pizza today by myself for dinner along with a little soda. No "sugar crash" afterwards at all, I wasn't tired even a couple hours after eating it. I actually felt pretty good and got through my night class fine. Can you guys do that or do you feel crappy after eating that much pizza at one time? I'm wondering if that means I'm insulin resistant, or maybe my body just runs on carbs well (ie. i'm a carb type).

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
Espio - If there's enough cheese on the pizza, it will help slow down the carbohydrate conversion into glucose.
Most soda (within the United States) is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, which does not cause an insulin spike since it is primarily metabolized by the liver. HFCS only has about 10% potential conversion into glucose, so impact on blood sugar is very minimal.
If I eat that kind of meal---and I do eat like this once in a while, I won't be caught dead without my supplements but I can do this without any serious repercussions.
It's possible you're a carb type, but it's not conclusive due to the above reasons.

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
Ah okay, I was just curious if that was a good thing or a bad thing that I don't really get "sugar crashes" that i hear people talk about a lot. I didn't know if it was because my insulin sensitivity is good and therefore handling the incoming sugar well, or if maybe it was because my insulin sensitivity was bad and therefore was receiving a huge insulin load but the insulin resistance was causing me to not feel the crash. Thanks

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
Man you either straight or gay - there is no middle ground ~ LOL
If I have to discipline myself, I have to train myself to hate that element. Once I decide soda is bad, the only way I will avoid is to establish soda as an "enemy" that must be avoided at all costs. For me it cannot be ~ no big deal if I take it once in a while. If I do, I slip fast...
Not sure which model is right (wishy washy or the military style)...

Re: Whats for Breakfast?
One thing's for sure, I don't think I'll ever eat Corn Flakes or Frosties for breakfast ever again having seen how much sugar is in them
I currently am eating a fruit/nut meusli with "No added sugar" and "low GI".
http://www.kelkin.ie/prod_originalmuesli.html
I still take a fruit juice though, so thats enough sugar anyway.

B) Yogurt is providing too much calcium
