Breakfast meals
I have been a huge fan of having cereals for breakfast. Mostly museli type cereals or oatmeal.
Are either of these bad for diet?
Thanks.

Yes, breakfast cereals, really any grains are bad for you. I usually eat unsweetened applesauce mixed with whey protein for breakfast, sometimes egg, sometimes rare steak.

Re: Breakfast mealsmus
Thanks for the reply...
How about oatmeal? Not having cereal is going to be SO hard for me.
So I guess that means museli bars too?
As a bodybuilder, these items have all been a vital part of my diet.
Thanks.

I have come to the same conclusion. Grains can only be a food of last resort, when there is noting else around to eat.a < r wrote:really any grains are bad for you.
A bodybuilder's breakfast could consist of pure protein, no carbs, no fats. See: http://www.ergo-log.com/proteinbreakfast.html

Re: Breakfast mealsmus
Thanks for your help guys.
Looks like I am going to start gearing back the grains (museli, museli bars) from now on.
Lately I have been consuming way too much grains (museli for breakfast and lunch some days, as well as museli bars). OOPS!
Thanks

I still have steel-cut oats from time to time. There are a lot of studies showing that it has anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve gut health. Some have raised concerns about cross-contamination of the oats supply with wheat components (gluten being the main cause of concern). I wonder how much of a problem this is.

Re: Breakfast mealsmus
It seems that everyone has different tolerances. Earlier this year I got "hooked" on eating organic oats cereal (used almond milk with it) and not only did I gain a bunch of weight from it, I was eating a lot of it. That told me that it caused leptin resistance and was undoubtedly inflammatory in my case.
However a family member has eaten the same cereal for years with zero ill effects.

Re: Breakfast mealsmus
I eat eggs & turkey bacon (from Trader Joe's w/o nitrates) every morning. I shoot for between 30 grams - 50 grams of protein for breakfast. I have no carbs at all with breakfast. This helps me feel full, curb cravings and stabilizes my energy levels to start my day. It gets a little boring, but I find for myself it's a great way to start the day. Takes about 5-10 mins to make tops.
I think cereal for breakfast is one of the biggest crimes of the last 50 years or so next to artificial sweeteners.
Remember in the 80's when it was totally acceptable to have chocolate donuts for breakfast? God, we were dumb and you can see the results of that stupidity in the obesity epidemic.

Re: Breakfast mealsmus
Ok, had a massive shift in routine today... This morning I had yoghurt with flax seed and almonds. I also had a raw juice drink with my vitamins.
I hope this is much better...
Is occasional toast ok? Someone said rice cereal.. Are Rice Bubbles ok?
Thanks again for the education people, much appreciated.

Eggs every morning.
I alternate gluten free steel cut oatmeal and gluten free waffles with grade b maple syrup every other day.

Re: Breakfast mealsmus
I eat organic eggs with green and red peppers and red onion everyday. I don't cook the veg a ton and I mix green onions I grow myself and some wheat germ (not sure if this is bad for hair? know it has lots of zinc though) into the eggs. I season it with Wright's Salt and fresh ground pepper plus a bit of cayenne, and a bunch of turmeric. I cook it in coconut oil and put a little shot of hemp oil in at the end. Tastes great. Oh and I cook it in coconut oil in a steel pan (no teflon!).
The prep could take a while so I just cut up enough for Monday-Wed On Mon and the rest on Thursday and put it in Tupperware.
I should note that I eat this after the gym. Before the gym all I have is a little whey protein (from grass fed hormone free cows) and some BCAAs. Then the other half of my whey after the gym and then breakfast when I get home.
Any ideas on how to improve this routine would of course be welcome.

I never eat breakfast, except on rare occasions on holiday or with someone else.

Steak for breakfast huh? Someone puts on his pants one leg at a time
I also like to eat a high protein breakfast and often this involves whey protein, especially if I'm on the way out the door for work. Apparently a high protein breakfast is great for, not only mood (acting like a nootropic), but also for leptin sensitivity. Jack Kruse has his patients eat a breakfast that includes 75g protein if they are looking to reset leptin sensitivity.

Haha, I find one's reaction to naked breakfast has a much more interesting impact when simply presented in the moment, but that's just me

Re: Breakfast mealsmus
I was most interested in Hadrion's nitrite free bacon recommendation. I googled nitrite-free bacon and I found this link..
http://ruhlman.com/2011/05/the-no-nitrites-added-hoax/
Does anyone think it has merit?
Naked breakfast? Ah, noooo...

Re: Breakfast mealsmus
Same thing with the oats happened for me .. ate them constantly, gained weight, increase in inflammation. Possible leptin resistance "rogue food".
I always try get some good protein in the morning. In Nepal every morning I would have
the chana, aloo, roti (chickpea, potatto, bread).

Hey tooyoung, sorry man been busy and must have missed that, I generally use whatever I find on sale, I mix it up every now and then, though I do stick to products that I know are of decent quality.

I'm always hungry when I wake up & enjoy a boiled egg, (sometimes poached) every morning, along with a cup of green tea.
I find it a great start to the day & dont usually be hungry again till Lunchtime
