Possible forum feature?
CS, mods, devs, posters, it is possible to incorporate a 'search for keyword within a thread feature', since many useful threads run into tens of pages.
An example- try searching a popular Ray Peat threads for the keyword 'orange'. Just that one thread.
I do not think there is a way to do this via a search engine, since the URLs of each page of a thread differ, and are not hierarchical.
If such a feature exists on the bulletin board/ forum software, and if it is possible to enable it, it would be of a huge benefit for quickly retrieving information in a given context.
If there's already a way to do this, and I missed it, please let me know.
thanks,

Let me look into this for you...perhaps there is a mod that we can add to the forum. I'll try to contact the phpBB staff or forum community regarding this! Great idea...

Another suggestion - kind of a long shot, but I think it would be nice if this forum switched over to a reddit style posting system. That way people like MisterE, Hoppi, Mastery, etc. wouldn't need to be banned, their unpopular posts could just be voted to the bottom and anyone who wanted to continue the discussion would be free to do so.

Re: Possible forum feature?
I suggest a CHATROOM! We can maybe even go oldschool and create IRC channel to fasten the transfer of the thoughts and ideas. It can be also implemented on the forum as a module. I once typed CS about this idea, but recieved no reply :S. I am affraid this idea can affect his consultations income and for him this might not be good solution at all. I agreee him to have piece of the pie as he is the biggest knowledge provider we have here - FOR FREE. Any thoughts about it?
crincrin - The best forums i find in the web are educational. For example: Company of National Instruments has their own forum with their people helping engineers to use their software. Every engineer with a problem rate people who responded to his call resulting in a standings valued by their knowledge - not quantity of replys. I can see very big benefits applying this method on this already great forum.
CS-your feedback needed. If this is a bad idea for us to influence the evolution of this forum simple tell it. Being CIO of this forum with enormous ratio of ''positive influence''= given/received compared to number below 1 for many of us in this forum, we will respect your opinion.
Uf, i read what i've just written - to much programming and to few hours of sleep. Will still share the same idea.

Re: Possible forum feature?
This seems to work as long as you use the Google website, not the box at the side; In Google enter:
inurl:"THREAD TITLE HERE" site:immortalhair.forumotion.com/ SEARCH TERMS HERE
So, for example, inurl:"ray peat discussion" site:immortalhair.forumotion.com/ orange
inurl:"THREAD TITLE HERE" site:immortalhair.forumotion.com/ SEARCH TERMS HERE
So, for example, inurl:"ray peat discussion" site:immortalhair.forumotion.com/ orange

Re: Possible forum feature?
Happy to help.
I can't edit my old post, but just to avoid any confusion: You can put your search terms, inurl: and site: operators in any order; The / isn't necessary; and the title only needs to be a unique portion not necessarily the whole thing

Why don't we have a chill out room, or politics room, or stuff like that?

It's hard to keep up with things, but yes, this is really the solution.
Does anyone know how to make the Google selection the default instead of the "inside" option ?

Re: Possible forum feature?
CS, its easy to set the default search engine as google and not "inside", but this would require editing the skin (html) (theme). it's pretty easy.

Re: Possible forum feature?
CS, it has to do with the free forum host that disable the standard PHPBB search feature. If they don't allow you to change it, I suggest hosting PHPBB yourself
http://immortalhair.org/
I noticed you already have the domain, PHPBB is free you could set it up on that domain and run 100% full features with 0 advertising (unless you wanted it and you would get the money yourself). Its very easy too, let me know if you need help
