Why is beta-sitosterol good for young people?
Hi
I have never found an answer to what good beta-sitosterol does for young people. I am taking about 200 mg daily (100mg with breakfast and 100 mg with dinner), and I am experiencing "itchiness" in the scalp. It is not much, but it is there. I am 23, btw.
If anybody can shed some light on this, I would be grateful.
Best,
Jim.

Lambaugh - That reaction reminds me of my early days when I used things like Saw Palmetto and Beta Sitosterol. Theoretically, Beta Sitosterol will help because it reduces DHT, but the problem also is that it also reduces testosterone.
It's like an "herbal" finasteride, where sides can occur and this type of approach works best when testosterone/SHBG is quite high. In other words, high T, low SHBG.
I would only suggest this approach on a tight budget for the young.

What things increase testosterone then?
I also have a general question: When fighting hair loss, are high or low values of testosterone good (regardless of beta sitosterol)?

CS, do you think beta sit is a 5ar blocker? You mentioned in a thread back in 2009:
"There are no long term studies on 5-AR blockers and in my opinion they probably will eventually lead to memory or neurological disorders later in life."
Is this true with beta sit?

SHBG-bound-testosterone = good.
Free-testosterone = bad.
Same in regards to IGF-1.
Protein-bound-IGF-1 = good.
Free-IGF-1 = bad.

Then if beta-sit reduces T, then it is good, CS?
