CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
.. From Nature's herbs the cheap 4.80$ one, have you taken it, would you rate the quality in your oppinion? It taste awful, it smells taste and look completely different than the one from Natural factors. I am not sure if I should recommend the product.

Re: CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
cpio - I've been using it for maybe two or three months, I'm on my third bottle and have already ordered my forth. That stuff is pretty potent smell wise anyway and I love the price. I haven't tried the other brands so I haven't compared them. I felt the reviews were good, as some mentioned it helps with them their gout.
The reason I'm taking it is to lower uric acid, since fructose corn syrup is hidden in everywhere and uric acid raised from HFCS is the mechanism behind metabolic syndrome.
I feel that the stuff works, but not having tried the others I can't compare. Did you notice any difference between the other products besides the smell or lack of it?

Re: CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
The color differ as well, the NF one are bright green, it also has a somewhat different smell although I find both of them pleasant smelling, whereas the Nature's herbs are brown in color. It has a very potent taste not pleasant at all. I wonder if some of the cheap brands make extracts in Acetone which may account for some bad taste? I read about a study in which even small amounts of Acetone caused bodily disturbance in rats, in particular male ones.
When I first took it it gave me a headache, which resolved by water drinking.

I've been using for a couple of weeks now. It definitely works as a natural diuretic. I've had no water retention issues since starting it.

Re: CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
LittleFighter - I just posted this in a similar thread, but it's on topic.
Info on celery seed extract:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19616517 (Reduces ROS under adverse glucose environment)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18328624 (Great Anti-Alzheimer's)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15167282 (anti-thrombotic)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11270994 (Protects against vasoreactive effectives, endothelin-1, Nitrosative)
I believe the mechanism is to reduce aldosterone levels, and by protecting against a number of inflammatory assaults.

jdp, caustic and everyone thanks again!
This looks very promising... The incomparable effects of celery seed and the fact that it is devoid of any side effects makes it even more interesting... With powerful natural products like celery seed, who need prescription med's!

Re: CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
goten574 - Celery seed extract is some interesting stuff. It may reduce aldosterone levels, which is very important to keep hair. Elevated aldosterone levels are a large factor in MPB. Also celery seed extract inhibits nitrosative stress, which are inflammatory byproducts of nitric oxide, usually as iNOS and peroxynitrate. It also attenuates free-radicals induced by elevated blood glucose levels, which means it can protect against some dietary indulgences.
Personally I use it to fight against high fructose corn syrup which is practically in everything these days.
As an added bonus I'm pretty convinced that this is a fantastic libido enhancer (boosts endothelial nitric oxide). Celery seed extract is awesome.
There's limited data on something else too, which is that celery contains a pheromone like substance called
androstenone, and whether this really attracts females or not, I'm not sure.

Re: CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
I now had the opportunity to examine and compare more carefully the Natural factors to Nature's herbs celerey seed extract .. and the taste is almost identical. The smell is abit stronger in the NF one, and the NF one has a brighter color. I dont think there is anything wrong with the Nature's herbs one, its pretty good even if less potent than NF, and great price.

You guys take 4 caps daily so you need 2 containers of celery extract per month right?
So that is another $11 plus in our monthly anti-hair loss budget...

Re: CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
edony,
I've never tried the Nature's Herb's yet as I've been a little hesitant due to Vitamin E being in the ingredient, possible gluten, and I'm trying to eliminate 100% of gluten from my diet. cpio and CausticSymmetry both take it. Eventually I'm going to try it but I did find the Natural Factors very good at 4 caps per day. Less caps was a waste of money as I didn't notice much.
I may also buy a juicer and drink a lot of celery instead but I don't think that will go over very well.
If you don't try out celery seed extract I'd highly recommend magnesium chloride and drink a little Bragg's apple cider vinegar in water with a couple drops of Lugol's instead. Do this a couple times a week is great.
hope this helps

Re: CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
edony,
The magnesium chloride doesn't have to be applied topically on your scalp but I believe it gives better results that way. You can alternatively soak your feet in magnesium chloride or spray it on your body.
The magnesium chloride topically & after mag levels are high enough, can mix some apple cider vinegar with water and would be used to help with aldosterone. Just like how celery seed extract may help with aldosterone. The couple drops of Iodine in apple cider vinegar comes from Dr. D.C. Jarvis. I posted an e-book here months ago from Dr. D.C. Jarvis that I can't seem to find but in short he used a couple drops of Lugol's mixed in with his ACV/water. Iodine/Iodide just makes everything work much better. There might be some synergy. Another synergy that has been mentioned is boron/borax and Iodine together possibly for candida and flouride. Anyway, iodine is interersting in apple cider vinegar. It "appears" there isn't any Iodine and only contains Iodide when put in apple cider vinegar as the color disappears and would be easier for a lot of people to take that way. Note: vitamin c converts Iodine ---> Iodide. Iodine is the oxidant but a very good oxidant for prostate, etc.. Iodide is the antioxidant. So again, Lugol's contains both Iodine and Iodide but when you add vitamin c then you just have Iodide.
Here is an interesting quote
"In relation to supplemental use of iodine, my studies of certain dairy herds has revealed interesting evidences of the relationship between host and micro-organisms, viruses, insects, and other parasites.....My object was to rout these cattle grubs by means of the apple cider vinegar and iodine, combination; this would demonstrate, to me at least, what the combination would do in the way of making the body as a host unsuitable soil for the development and continuing existence of microorganisms, viruses, insects, and other parasites."
Notice Dr. D.C. Jarvis full head of hair http://www.jcrows.com/jarvisportraits.html
CausticSymmetry did a good write up on aldosterone here http://www.immortalhair.org/physiology.htm
Note: some like taking apple cider vinegar with baking soda (i.e. sodium bicarbonate). earthclinic.com has some good info regarding this.
Also, apple cider vinegar can wear away teeth enamel so want to rinse your mouth with water after drinking or drink the ACV/water with a straw.
Also, keep in mind that free glutamic acid/MSG is a calcium channel opener. Very large amounts of free glutamic acid is found in gluten and casein. Also, soy and corn. Here is an easy to follow page regarding free glutamic acid http://www.thepowerhour.com/news2/msg_information.htm

Re: CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
I thought I posted this yesterday but I guess not.
Nature's Herb's, the cheap celery seed extract, I don't like at all. I've gone through a half a bottle and it doesn't seem to be nearly as potent ... even at 4 capsules per day.
I'm throwing it away and going back to the Natural Factor's celery seed extract.
hope this helps

Jdp ,
what is the effect that Natural factors' celery gave you and you didn't get from the cheap one? What is the effect one should expect from a good celery product?
I'm asking you cos unfortunately I've already ordered 4 bottles of the cheap Nature's Herb's and my order 's shipped out.

I haven't tried Natural Factors, maybe I should give it a spin, but I'm very happy with the cheaper Nature's herbs. It boosts libido (increases nitric oxide), and is a good diuretic.

Re: CausticSymmetry about that celery seed product
edony,
I'm sure the Nature's Herb celery seed extract works fine but in comparison the Natural Factors works so much better for me "at 4 caps per day." Maybe I got spoiled by Natural Factors but when I tried Nature's Herb's brand I just don't see much. Maybe I'm sensitive to one of the ingredients in the Nature's Herb's brand. For me it's worth it to spend the extra money.
I've also used this celery seed and while I have to use a lot to notice a difference I'm happier with it over Nature Herb's brand. But even then, the Natural Factors brand works much better. Also, the Natures Herbs brand and that Swansons brand I didn't notice a benefit regarding scalp feelings or maybe it's not nearly as much. The Natural Factor's brand I do distinctively remember talking about and also a feeling a difference regarding better scalp feeling. I hope that makes sense.
As far as benefits, as CausticSymmetry mentioned you defnitely get a boost in libido and also a boost in preventing brain fatigue. I've also noticed the diuretic effect as well.
hope this helps

j87x,
That stuff doesn't work well .... the actual celery seeds. I've tried it.
What you're looking for is a supplement that is "standardized to contain 85% 3-n-butylphthalide."
These two is what you're looking for
http://www.iherb.com/Natural-Factors-Celery-Seed-Extract-60-Capsules/2710?at=0
or
http://www.iherb.com/Nature-s-Herbs-Power-Herbs-Celery-Seed-Power-60-Capsules/4399?at=0
I've tried both and I don't like Natur'es Herbs. Natural Factors celery seed extract is the way to go at 4 pills per day. At that dose and that brand I believe works very well for hair loss. Due to the cost I don't take it anymore but instead take apple cider vinegar or lemons or concentrate on other methods to improve aldosterone such as preventing food allergies or making sure I'm not hypothyroid so I can retain potassium and making sure I've chelated enough lead.
