Dr. Lustig/Sugar
I've heard a lot about Dr. Robert Lustig and his views on sugar. This is the first time I've seen him. I must say he
is a good example of a healthy-looking older man with a nice head of hair. And good evidence for the benefits of cutting out sugar.

What about honey?
Specifically,

Is sugar absolutely unnecessary?

Refined sugar is totally unnecessary/detrimental.

Re: Dr. Lustig/Sugar
I've been a bit of a critic of Dr. Lustig. Is it really the sugar that's the problem? The message that is lost I think is that Dr. Lustig loses sight of the fact that rats and humans have vastly different metabolism of fructose. That's point #1 and #2, it is the loss of minerals that occurs with sugar consumption.
From a hair loss perspective, avoiding sugar could add stress. Some people can feel fine without any sugar, however some people generally thrive on a higher carbohydrate diet. If minerals are replaced, the body can metabolize these sugar/carbohydrates better.

Thanks for sharing your pov. Surely though, you aren't saying sugary processed food does anyone any good?
It seems the human race did just fine before refined white sugar and HFCS came along...

Agreed, however, it's really hard for a lot of people (myself included) to be a purest and avoid processed foods completely.
So when cheating, it is comforting to know that things that help hair (phytonutrients and minerals) will also act as a buffer.

I see your point. I do think that the less sugar we eat, the less we want it. Eating sugar changes our body chemistry so we want more.
Same applies to alcohol, coffee and other addictive substances.
But yes, we are all probably going to cheat a bit from time to time...the holidays especially.
