Do you consume sugar / sugar containing products / fruit?
IH community - Do you eat sugar?
Please state your reasons for against sugar consumption. Gathering some information for a potential thread, I would greatly appreciate everybody throwing in their daily intake.

Small serving of my favorite pastry once a week. A small chunk or two of dark chocolate (85%) every other day. Blueberries or apple everyother day.

Quite a lot of fruit...
And the occasional small chocolate bar! hehe

Re: IH community - Do you eat sugar?
I eat sugar on very rare occasions, so I voted "no."
I used to eat about two to three chocolate bars everyday. And I used to eat pastries, and cakes, cookies, etc.
Since keeping up with probiotics and brewer's yeast, it's really easy for me to turn down the offers for cookies,
cakes, etc.
Of course, I will eat these things every once in a while--especially if they are made really well.
If I were to eat a product containing sugar, I will notice inflammation within 24-hours.
Special note, I do consume some fructose corn syrup (HFCS), but the effects it has on skin and insulin are vastly different than "regular" sugar. HFCS is hidden in a lot of processed foods--it's even in ketchup. So I will not worry too much if I eat a little of it here and there. One can consume up to 25 grams per day without any serious detriment. I'm not suggesting it's safe, far from it, but less than 25 grams of sugar will have a much more negative effect than an equal amount of HFCS in terms of hair/skin.

This is the thing, I had an extremely minuscule sugar as it was, but it wasn't until I cut all sugar (fruits) that I noticed the major impact on my scalp. I can touch my scalp now without feeling shitty about how tender it was, so strange, experimentation with these regimens are so necessary.
I'm trying to get a feel for our users who eat sugar / don't eat sugar, and see how their successes compare.

That's quite interesting. I was just saying to action<reaction that I might cut down a bit on it, and that makes me more tempted still
I did really like that xylitol though!
Re: IH community - Do you eat sugar?
Xylitol is safe, except for your pet. I don't count that as sugar. I use Xylitol almost everyday!
I forgot to mention, I eat virtually zero fruit, except for the tomato sauce on my pizza once per week.

I used to be such a pizza junkie, I miss it, definitely picking up buckwheat flower soon.
I've been meaning to ask you CS, is there a specific style / brand of pizza that you eat?

Re: IH community - Do you eat sugar?
action<reaction - Not really, I just go for the taste. It's usually from an independent place or local favorite. Frozen pizza I never buy of course, since it has a lot to be desired.

Re: IH community - Do you eat sugar?
Fruit-sugars, high-fiber complex-carbs and starch provided the bulk of my calorie intake. I avoid all refined "unnatural-sugars": syrup, HFCS, honey, brown-sugar, table-sugar and refined starches like white-flour.
The reason I eat fruit, complex-carbs and starches is because eating them is the perfect fuel for the human body and is shown to reverse the "big-three" diseases associated with MPB, by Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Barnard, and Dr. Ornish, provided dietary-fat is kept at an average of 7-8%, you are eating absolutely no cholesterol or animal-protein, and lots of fiber at every meal. The unnatural-sugars like table-sugar or syrup is nothing more than empty-calories, providing nothing beneficial to health.
How many times have you heard the mantra: eating sugar causes insulin, and insulin makes you fat. Well, it’s not that simple. Contrary to popular belief, refined sugars actually make the body’s insulin work more efficiently [1]. Studies comparing sugar intake with risk of developing type-2-diabetes shows people on high-sugar diets are less likely to get diabetes [2]. You see, sugar is only bad when it turns to body-fat. It is the accumulation of body-fat that causes insulin resistance.
When sugar is eaten, many of the calories are instantly burned-off as heat to meet the body’s instant energy needs. If any sugar is left over, it is stored as glycogen, if sugar consumption precedes glycogen capacity, then it is turned into body-fat. It is actually the body-fat that causes insulin-resistance not sugar per say. So eating sugar doesn’t turn to body-fat very efficiently, especially if combined with lots of fiber. However…
The fat you eat is the fat you wear. Eating fats and oils turns directly into body-fat, no questions asked. Scientists can remove a piece of fat from your body-fat and can tell what kind of fats you have previously eaten. If you are filled with trans-fat, that means you have eaten too much processed-foods. Most of the obese people you see walking around with a huge-gut or double-chin, all the fat hanging off their body ain’t really their fat, it is all the animal-fat they have eaten, all the olive-oil they’ve eaten, all the cakes, pies and pastries and so on, even too much fish-oil turns into body-fat and reduces insulin sensitivity!
If you want to reduce the risks for The Metabolic Syndrome and other diseases that threaten our species survival, you must understand the importance of carbohydrates in the diet as the main fuel source for the human body.

Re: IH community - Do you eat sugar?
I personally will contest you on this MisterE, though I am entirely convinced that your diet is probably great for you, sadly it fell through for me.
I grew up in a very small town, very isolated and extremely cultured.
Besides a couple old ladies with obvious gland issues and one guy who lived off of pretty much trans fat, I never saw one overweight person.
And trust me, they all ate the same things.
Fresh / salted Codfish, Mackerel, Caplin, Rabbit, Pheasent, Duck, Seal, Moose, Brook Trout, Caribou, Turnip, Carrot, Potatoe, Lettuce, Caulliflower, Beet, tomato, Onion.
The conditions were excruciating at times, and I know that my ancestors would not have been able to keep up with the elements of surviving rural Newfoundland on fruit. My Grandfather is a great example of this, he listened to his body, he knew when he needed a big plate of fish, knew when he wanted it fresh or salted, know what day he needed his red meats, but he never neglected his vegetables either. When I was a kid I got a really weird surprise, Ifound out that every night before bed he would eat half a head of lettuce covered in vinegar. That was interesting.

Bear Grylls eats a lot of meat, he doesn't appear to be overweight.

Can't say I've eaten that, haha.
Bear has probably managed to eat wild Bologna, he really gets around.

Does snakes get heart disease? I wonder if cholesterol phobics ever considered that animals have been eating animals as long as animals have existed. We are animals too.

This is something else that's been bothering me, since moving to Alberta I've been more exposed to the Native population of Canada, and what strikes me is their hair. Even the very old generally have all of their hair, and for pretty much their entire existance they thrived on meat. It wasn't until KFC threw trans fats at them that they got all the media attention for being particularly susceptible to obesity.

LOL at CS using mistere's debating style against him. It's impossible to reason with mistere using conventional methods. He never speaks for himself but always copy n paste studies that don't even prove a point most of the times.

Voted "yes" because it's hard to avoid 100% and I still have small amounts but my belief is definitely in "no".

I'd love to verify this, but your sources are dead links.misterE wrote:How many times have you heard the mantra: eating sugar causes insulin, and insulin makes you fat. Well, it’s not that simple. actually, you can research MCT's, they are a fat and burn off immediately in the body and dont turn to storage fat at all. I think there are some pieces missing to your puzzle.
