Finding your specific metabolic type
I've taken a few tests that generalize protein, carb, and mixed types. I always end up a protein type, but I'm aware that it goes much deeper than that. Are there any free tests that can get more specific? If not, which paid one would be the best investment? Books are cool too.

Experimentation is the only real way you'll ever find out for yourself what your metabolic type is, take a couple minutes to sit down and plan two week intervals of eating different ratios of protien to carb to fat ratios and mix up what types of foods in those categories you eat, you'll slowly get a better idea.

Re: Finding your specific metabolic type
I've been working with that a little bit, but I'm also interested in the ancestral aspect that decides what foods you can and can't eat. This is currently hard for me to do as I've had some symptoms of fructose malabsorption, which was probably induced by my old eating habits. I get bloated after having a salad and try swapping different foods with no luck, thinking my ancestry just didn't include a lot of foods. Eating an apple by itself also seemed to cause stomach discomfort so I'm off fructose for a few weeks to starve the bacteria. So far no bloating. Hopefully when this is done I can accurately test some foods out.

I'm a similar way and just eat a lot of rare meat, I find food combining helpful here though ... for instance an apple like you said, I have problems if I eat it alone. My dinner tonight was a homemade raw chutney that was two green applea, half a red onion, tumeric, chili powder, a whole juiced lemon, pepper, lots of sea salt, apple cider vinegar, and a mango. I ate this with a piece of raw fish lightly lightly fried in coconut oil and salt. The whole meal went down so well compared to when I eat fruit alone. Again it really becomes a try it and see sort of experiment to find whats right with you.

Try a stomach acid test as well, see how you fare with that.

I did some research and found that the HCL stomach acid test is works well. If I do end up with low stomach acid, is the best solution to keep taking betaine HCL?
