IH,

I've noticed recently that after I take my Best Vite Acetyl L Carnitine with the Ortho R-ALA with meals, it's knocking me out and making me a little sleepy. This is a recent development.

I didn't take either yesterday and today and my energy levels were better throughout the day.

Any reason why that combo could make sleepy out of the blue like this?

hadrion - There's a few things you can try. Try taking Cinnulin PF (a potent water-soluble cinnamon extract) instead. This will dampen blood sugar levels. Are you taking any B-vitamins?
ALA and use up additional stores of B-complex. Would try the cinnamon extract for a while to keep you protected.

It's possible that your T3 levels might be affected. One way to increase energy and this activity is to take MCT Oil http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-MCT-Oil-100-Pure-32-fl-oz-946-ml/13585?at=0

This provides a lot of sustained energy and promotes lean muscle mass and the loss of fat, increasing T3 hormone.

I take the Swansons Brewers Yeast tabs for my B vitamins. I'm not good with the dosage though. I just pour a giant handful in my hand and take them. I try to get 10 tabs at least once a day. I usually end up taking more though.

I'll look into the Cinnulin PF and the MCT oil.

My overall energy levels really aren't effected. I'm fine when I'm working out.

It just seems like after a meal with ALC-R-ALA combo I get sleepy about 45 minutes after it. I shake it off pretty easily, but it is a new development for me. I'd hate to give up the combo.

Could it be because I'm strictly following an insulin resistant diet? Could my blood sugar be going down too low with the cleaner diet and the supplement?

Thoughts?

hadrion - Funny, I had not thought of that, yes I believe so. Have you tried taking it after the meal (usually not recommended), but might spare the effect?

IH,

I'll play around with the timing of the dosage and see if I notice a difference. I definitely come from a family of insulin resistant types (not much actual diabetes though).

The insulin resistant diet could be the culprit since it's the only thing that I've really changed and been strict with. While I'm still having carbs, I'm eating them much differently than before.

I had gone no carb for quite awhile and then let carbs creep back in over the holidays until I locked it down by following the diet in the book I read. I just wonder if my blood sugar is plunging when I take the R-ALA....

That MCT oil sounds very interesting though so I'm giving that a shot.
