glutathione for hairloss
has anyone been taking glutathione, or its precursors (nac, ala)???
i have read a study that suggests glutathione maintains the anagen phase of a hair follicle?
i have also read that MSM, increases glutathione levels by 80% in mice.
also, that LED increases glutathione levels.
and curcumin increases glutathione levels as well.
there was a product releases containg glutathione called bioclin advance, which may help with hair loss.
http://blog.thewestminsterpractice.com/tricho-peptide-anti-hair-loss-treatment-2/
im thinking glutathione may help with hair loss.
has anyone been on it for a good solid 6 months or so?

Re: glutathione for hairloss
Sulforaphane is the best thing I know of to improve Glutathione production, look for a product called Broccomax by Jarrow's.
I've only been taking it for 2 months but it seems very promising.

Re: glutathione for hairloss
gutted - Raising glutathione is a cornerstone of my regimen, which I have practiced for several years.
Besides raising glutathione levels, it is a good idea to remove some culprits that cause glutathione depletion. Namely, root canals and other types of heavy metal intoxication.
Once root canals and fillings are removed, OSR (Oxidative Stress Relief) is the most effective way to remove metals and raise glutathione levels.
As far as a potent glutathione supplement, there is Lypo-Spheric GSH.
Personally, I just use Sulforaphane (Broccomax, Stablized R-Lipoic Acid, Curcumin) and a few others to raise GSH levels.

Re: glutathione for hairloss
Very interesting info on cold showers! .. I always end a shower with cold water rinse throughly on my scalp and face.
Other than the cold shower to activate the natural instincts in the body for detoxificationtion, there is fasting .. and yoga!
I recently started practicing yoga and there is something to it that increases detoxification .. i dont know what it is yet, but it is stronger than
just from sweating.

jimmyw - Nice info! I usually have the normal warm shower with 30secs or more totally cold. After the initial shock I always feel invigorated.
It is especially beneficial in winter as once your pores are closed you stay warm for a fair while afterwards.
I strongly believe cold showers boosts ones immune system.

Re: glutathione for hairloss
Ages ago ( about 20 years or so) I read a book about stopping hair loss. I cant remeber the title or author but I do remember vividly his belief( which he said he had tested on hundreds of men) that daily washing of hair in cold water stopped hair loss. Actually, he stressed daily rinsing, no shampoos. In those days there were no non SLS shampoos so maybe the combination of cold water and no SLS was helping.
I tried it for a while but back then I didnt have a shower so I found daily rinsing a pain in the neck( literally) and stopped.
Maybe there is a link here?

i definetely believe there is a link with mpb and glutathione.
http://www.regrowth.com/hairloss-forums/viewthread.cfm?f=1&t=22777
in that thread someone posted that led increases glutathione in cells which may explain why laser brushes work???
im currecntly on msm, and would like to start boosting my glutathione levels as well, ive read that taking glutathione isnt effective but taking the precursors to it is.

ive read tgf beta is the "hair follicle asassin" ie bad for hair, from the study above it seems as tgf beta reduces glutathione levels which is important to "mediate" the effects of tgf.
a study revealed alopecic scalp has lower glutathione levels.

Re: glutathione for hairloss
Bonded cystine is composed of two cysteine molecules linked by a disulfide bond. What this means is that this bonded cystine travels safely through the digestive system and blood plasma and upon entering the cell is reduced to two cysteine molecules, which become available for glutathione production.
Bonded cystine is found naturally in some unheated food stuffs- raw eggs, raw meats, some raw vegetables and minimally processed dairy products. However in the process of cooking, normal dairy pasteurization and mechanical agitation, the fragile cystine bond is broken. When this happens, the cell does not receive the nutrition it needs for glutathione production.
From http://www.proactiveimprovements.com/Raising_Glutathione_Levels.html
I'm a bit reluctant to use whey protein since it's a processed food, and I wonder if it would be easy to find whey protein that hasn't been denatured anyway. I also don't know where I'd find unpasteurized milk.
So I've started eating one raw egg everyday. CS, do you think this will be beneficial with regard to raising glutathione levels?
I've also read that broccoli (cruciferous vegetables in general) are also effective at raising glutathione, especially if they are consumed raw. Garlic and turmeric are also good for this purpose. I consume all of these on a regular basis.
I'm trying to formulate my hair loss regimen so that I acquire most of the key nutrients from real foods rather than through supplements. The main problem with this approach is that many of the nutrients that are useful for fighting hair loss (those that are found in IH's supplement regimen) do not occur in such high concentrations in real foods. But that's the main reason I'm reluctant to take the supplement route: I want to expose my body to naturally occurring concentrations of these nutrients. But I might have to find a middle ground.

Besides cysteine, garlic is good at boosting glutathione. Anything high in sulfur is really, so garlic and MSM are something I'm considering combining in my regimen. I've been using a TON of garlic for the past few months and my gut has been doing great. No bloating after meals, "good stools" and consistent, etc. I haven't been on MSM in a while though.

Re: glutathione for hairloss
Hi guys
I understand glutathione plays a big role in hair loss. It seems like quite an expensive supplement, so wanted to know if it would make a big difference if one used it for say a 6 month period. Are you likely to get regrowth?
Also, from the 2 below, is there a better supplement to take?
1) Lypospheric GSH
2) Immunocal
Would be useful to know if anyone tried this course of action before?
Thanks!

Thanks.
So, assuming I don't handle sulfur correctly. Is there another way to increase glutathione without using sulfur-containing supplements (MSM, Sulphoraphane, whey protein, ..) ?
I know heavy metal chelation enhance glutathione production but, precisely because I believe my glutathione levels are low, I can't chelate efficiently. I guess Lypo-Spheric GSH could help but it doesn't sound like a permanent cure.
Any idea ? ^^ (except cold showers)

Re: glutathione for hairloss
I don't follow why you're unable to chelate. Unless you have a mouth full of amalgams or constant exposure to heavy metals, methods like the cutler protocol, humifulvate or FIR Sauna should all work fine.
Getting back to sulfur issues....I've been spraying a MSM water solution on my head before bed and noticed a massive increase in shedding.
