K2 and sleep
Coincidence or not? Since I am taking vitamin K2 (10mg a day at dinner time), not only am I going to bed earlier, but also I'm having a deep sleep (a good thing!).
Does vitamin K2 anything to do with this?

gonzalito - This is very interesting. I've been noticing the same thing, and was wondering what's been happening. There is a lot of information about K2 that is still not known, and because it's no rare in today's western diet.
I've been taking K2 for a while, but it's only been that last few months that I've been taking much higher doses than before.

The first thing that came to my mind when I began to relate the K2 with -let´s say- "drowsiness" and deep sleep, was the infusion of lettuce that my grandmother used to take for insomnia...
Coincidence? Lettuce is one of the foods with the highest concentration of ... Vitamin K!
I promise to keep you informed if I keep experiencing the same ... In fact, this week I´ll test a higher dose (15mg daily) to see if drowsiness increases or not...

Re: K2 and sleep
I've been taking a lot of celery seed extract lately, so let's see if anyone else notices the effects of high dose K2.
Celery contains only K1, not K2.

CS... Are you taking the K2 at night time? Are you also going to bed earlier than before taking K2?

Re: K2 and sleep
I've been taking my K2 at lunch everyday--always with a meal that contains fat in it). Since taking doses of 5 mg or higher, I have been going to bed much earlier than I used too.

FWIW, K2 with Blue Ice cod liver oil works well, IME. That's how Weston Price recommended it ... synergy with Vitamin A and D. Not sure how much better than taking with a fatty meal though.
I can't find the exact quote I was looking for but here's some
"The diets of healthy native groups contained at least ten times more vitamin A and vitamin D than the American diet of his day!"
"Vitamin K2 works synergistically with the two other "fat-soluble activators" that Price studied, vitamins A and D. Vitamins A and D signal to the cells to produce certain proteins and vitamin K then activates these proteins."

Re: K2 and sleep
What product are you taking which has milligrams (as opposed to micrograms) of K2? CS' current regimen has D3 +k2 but thats only got 45 mcg...I assume you dont take 10 of those per day (that would be a ton of D3!).
Most of the MK-7 supps I'm seeing have less than 100 mcg of K2 in them...any help?
As for the "deeper sleep" have you noticed you wake more rested? Or just that you're sleeping through the night/not restless? I like to get up early (4am to go to the gym) but have trouble falling asleep at 9pm or so to get 7 hours of rest.

xyion1,
What I´m taking is:
http://www.iherb.com/Carlson-Labs-Vitamin-K2-5-mg-180-Capsules/14812?at=0
And yes: I´m waking up more rested than before taking K2.
Tonight I´ll try 15mg to see if somnolence is more notable...

gonzalito - I've been using this stuff recently (below), and before that I tried out the 15 mg via Bone 'O drops by Life Enhancement.

Re: K2 and sleep
And what about the 15 mg/day? Any noticeable differences in comparison to lower doses?

Re: K2 and sleep
I haven't really noticed a the same 'dramatic' difference in sleep(as it has occurred more gradually) but when i think about it I have noticed better sleep in the last 6months of my regimen. I just put it down to my overall regimen/lifestyle change, but come to think about it i did change from relatively low dose synthetic vitamin k2, to a whole foods form of vitamin k2.
jdp701 is 100% spot on. Vitamin K2 definitely has to be balanced with vitamin A and D to achieve the best results. I only take vitamin K2 in whole foods as its a lot more biologically available, where as you'd need to take much higher doses in isolate form to achieve the same effect. I personally take butter oil and fermented skate liver oil(pricey i know), plus raw goats milk kefir for my daily vitamin k2.
I sleep a hell of a lot better now then a did a year and more ago and believe the better sleep you get, the better it is for your hair and health.
