DT, Growth Factors and DHT Blockers : My chat with a specialist
Hi all;I would like to share some things which came up in conversation with a hair surgeon I went to for a consultation.Firstly,he outlined the treatments that are available to treat hairloss but they were ranked in such an order where he said 'prevention' was the first essential treatment..
To cut to the chase he said he believed stem cells was the most exciting and best direction in which hair restoration should be going in.
He recommended dermarolling as a means to induce the 'wound-healing-cascade' in which follicles damaged but not destroyed by dht get repaired by growth factors that flood in after a rolling session. It is not to make minoxidol more easily absorbed. In fact he said minoxidol was ineffective and didnt recommend it's use at all.A 1 mm dermaroller every day !
I told him about the DT technique that is talked about here. His eyes lit up and smilingly he said it works on the same principle as dermarolling. It induces the wound-healing cascade, brings up growth factors to follicles.
He recommended Finasteride saying it is the most effective Dht blocker.I expressed my concerns about it and suggested a herbal approach for blocking DHt.He said I could try this but he was doubtful it would reach the 'gold standard' that Finasteride reaches in effectiveness. He claimed side-effects are very rare.I am still not going to use it anyway which leads to the question...What are the best natural methods for blocking Dht ?I use Saw Palmetto,Pumpkin seed oil and nettle extract. Can anyone recommend anything similar or recommend the right dosages or ratios ?
He stated hair that is in it's vellous stage can be rejuvenated. But hair that has been completely atrophied cannot. These are the areas where baldness first occurs and in time progresses.Blocking Dht is essential for stimulation to be effective in appearance.I opted for a minor transplant on the hair line. The rest I hope to treat with the methods mentioned above.
This was all quite a revelation to me.In some ways it put the pieces together of all the things I have found in my own research over the years.

I am not sure if you've seen the http://www.immortalhair.org/mpb-regimen page, and just a thought in case you might want to go about fighting hair loss a little differently than by going after DHT systemically, but the IH regimen works for me.
I also use any old SLS free shampoo with some essential oils added to it (for example, lavender and tea tree oil were shown to block the androgen receptor in the breasts of young boys) to try and cover the DHT angle. And there are studies showing peppermint oil and other oils grow hair on mice, so I throw those in as well.
Also, I incorporate a vigorous brush with a hard brush each morning for 1-2 minutes which I find really helps give the hair life.

Hey thanks for the link.Alot of good information there. You take all of these supplements ?
Also, would you think it might be better to leave essential oils in the hair overnight and then wash out in the morning as leaving them in longer would be more effective ?

You're quite welcome.
I do take all of those supplements.
If I had to guess, I would say the EOs would probably be better served to be applied like a standard topical versus in shampoo form. And this may go without saying, but I would recommend adding them to a serum or cream versus applying them neat.

Wow, that makes my day. A new time when specialists are open to alternative treatments and the benefits of calculated wounding and regeneration. Thanks for asking and sharing Auriga.

How would that work? Your scalp would never heal and you'd be a bloody mess every single day.

Yeah I have seen that using a carrier oil is a good idea.

You are welcome. His clinic use PRP,carboxy and dermarolling sessions as treatments for hairloss along with FUE.I was supprised at hearing this because from a salesman perspective he is losing out by promoting dermarolling, a very cheap treatment amongst all the rest of his expensive treatments.

The idea is that the scalp is in a constant state of healing where the follicles get repaired by the igrowth factors induced by the wounding.I havent seen any blood from using a 1mm myself.
