equol supplement
There's an equol supplement out there called equolibrium from nature's sunshine, a US company. Probably the only equol supplement that exists. They're claiming that it protects the prostrate by binding to DHT...but strangely enuff there is no mention of hairgrowth benefits. By binding to DHT it should also put the brakes on hairloss and possibly initiate regrowth if the follicles aren't too damaged. Is it worth a try?

It's worth... why not. Like there's anything better anyway?
If it binds to DHT then DHT levels are not gonna change by much and no point to measure them.
So the only way to know if it works is to wait and see, at least 6-9 months just like with fin.
The question is, what is the price.

Re: equol supplement
According to their website it's $50 a bottle if you're not a member and $33 if you are. Probably still have to pay shipping fees though. A bottle contains 60 pills and you take 2/day. So a bottle lasts you about a month. I wonder how long before other companies will be making this stuff and we can find it on the shelves in the vitamin section of your favourite pharmacy or health store? Then there's the possibility of dissolving some caps and making a topical too.

Re: equol supplement
You can be pretty sure it is real equol, because this company gets its products third party tested:

Products and Manufacturing[edit]
Nature's Sunshine manufacturing processes are compliant with NSF/ANSI 173-2008, Dietary Supplements, Section 8. A vast majority of supplement and dietary manufactures do not hold this certification. The following is the NSF's own description of its certification:
"NSF is the only independent, third-party testing organization that offers true testing of dietary supplements. NSF does not simply evaluate test data submitted by manufacturers or analyze just a single sample of a product and give it our okay. We conduct product testing in our own accredited laboratories to confirm that the actual contents of the supplement product match those printed on the label. We also check to make sure no unlisted ingredients or potentially harmful levels of impurities are present in products that carry our certification.
With NSF certification, you get the continued assurance that only our ongoing testing programs can provide. Unlike some other programs, NSF conducts annual audits and periodically retests each dietary supplement to ensure continued compliance against the toughest testing standard in existence today." [7]
