Masturbation and Hair Loss?
Watched a video on TED recently about the negative affects of masturbation on erectile health, depression, ETC. Was wondering if there was any soild correlation between masturbation and hairloss?
Or maybe the masturbating part is not so bad, but the ejaculation and loss of minerals is whats bad? Any opinions or research?

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
not sure about lost minerals, lost zinc might be the problem.
it's sure not healthy to your brain. but you have to know about the difference between real sex and masturbation. it was discussed already on other topic, you can find it.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
Thanks. I was just wondering if you masturbate without porn would it be "better" or without the ejaculation?

hehe, although many will disagree, imho it goes like this:
better without the ejaculation to keep your minerals (what's the point?) < better without porn, to be your own stimulator (good for dopamine) < better to find a girlfriend and do it for real < full life energy...
you should really read the already discussed topic...

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
no porn no masturbation
here it is...
In connection masturbation with hairloss - there is no evidence although there are some theories behind it on how masturbation negatively affect the hair.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
The amount of minerals depleted from slapping your old fella round is negligible - if your diet is in check (apparently about 3-5mg zinc in ejaculate, for example).
And -- and I'm guessing here -- I'd say any hormonal effects from ejaculating would be very short-lived
I mean, exercise depletes a ton of minerals too and raises cortisol and adrenaline - should we not excercise either? Of course, chronic "exercise" wouldn't do anyone any good, but that's a different matter

hahahaha, Columbo, I've seen your avatar on one of those demotivational posters that says, "every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten."

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
This is actually a very important pro-health activity.... It applies to women as well as men.
"use it or lose it" The following are reading about the hormone that is released from orgasm, Oxytocin.
I can't find the research link that found that emotions also have a use it or lose it function on brain cell receptor sites. Love, happiness has a positive feed back loop. If you have a decreasing frequency of happiness, love (and orgasm) this path continues down and vs versa. So masturbating for both sexes is important for anti-cancer (etc etc) benefits of oxytocin and also the brain connections that pleasure and happiness forms.
Take away: speak highly of masturbation and happiness! Sex with a loving partner is best but filling in with do it yourself (DIY) is also healthy for you.

Read some of these links. There's some advertisements for products but IMO they reinforce the above comments.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
I agree, tnx for posting. Anyway i think maturation is overrated and porn addiction in many ways harmful for your brain.
But i have to remind that oxytocin is not only released during sex. It's a hormone of trust and any social interaction produces it if you build trustful relationships. When you start to ''feel'' the person beside you it's associated with oxytocin release.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
I feel that if sex/masturbation has any affect on your hair then the hair was going to fall very soon regardless.
Its good practice to keep everything in healthy moderation anyways, but I don't believe this is the way to solve anything as far as mpb.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
This topic has already been discussed a few time but it seems there's no real conclusion at the end.
Could it really be bad for some people ?
There are some interesting stuff about potential link :

http://cure-erectile-dysfunction.org/node/230
But the truth is nobody so far has been able to stop or regrow anything with abstinence.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
I don't think there's anything wrong with masturbation and ejaculation.
But I do think porn is a problem. IME, the problem with porn is that it allows you to masturbate in response to boredom/stress, whereas you should really only be getting off when you're truly aroused. Eliminating porn has had a huge impact on my overall sense of well-being. Better mental focus, more self-confidence, less fatigue, etc.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
I have read several forums discussing this topic, to the point that I decided to incorporate it.
I first made it like 4 days then Then I went a week then Then I made it a little over a week, then Then I made it close to two weeks, then, well you guessed it (and that's where I currently am).
Observations:
I can't deny that my body reacts positively to not being 'overdrawn'. Felt better at the gym, felt more sexual energy, etc..
Now for the hair, not sure I think this will solve my problem, but I HAVE noticed that I have less of those frizzy sickly looking hairs the longer I hold out. It also seems like the day after I feed the geese that I see more of these unhealthy hairs... who knows. I do see this as a positive life change though and will try and save my for sex only.

yes
Honestly I dont see it having a big effect at all. As long as you don't do it really excessively, Maybe its a shortage of zinc/ other minreals lost and not being replinshed.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
Zinc and other minerals are lost, prolactin is increased but it is increased a lot more with sexual intercourse, although i'm not sure if the amount of masturbation stacks up. Also testosterone increases (good for hair) when abstaining for 7 days I believe.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
I think for it to be significant in any way you'd know you were over doing it.
For most of us waiting 2 or 3 days between each would probably be enough, and the days you do
maybe take more supplements that buffer the affects..Shrug.

sure the hormonal release is short lived but to those masturbating excessively several times a day, i could see it having an effect.

Found something interesting here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071126181419AAjFxyj
Basically, they are saying masturbation without ejaculation will increase testosterone and decrease estrogen, both of them good for hair.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
I never understood why estrogen is good for hair.
Estrogen is what prevents women from baldness.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
I always wonder what makes people think it is (just) masturbation that is a trigger (in some), but not otherwise action.
How this makes sense is beyond me.
Let me tell you that it is not. It does not matter what kind of sexual action is performed; if it is a trigger in you than it does not matter. The damage starts already with the onset of the whole thing, e.g. from the point that your hormones "rise" (aka gettin "horny").
As this hair loss thing is a reaction to inflammation, obviously the sex thing causes inflammation in the body; this one chinese study found a 7-day cycle of rising testosterone if without sexual activity. The cycle is started anew every time one "shootes off". And is likely to stop after seven days without action.
People who experience this odd phenomenon have to stay "clean" for as long as possible; and the longer the better for the hair and whole of the body. Because the infammation does not only target specifically the hair but everything; it is only that the (genetically impaired) hair seems very prone to inflammation.

Why do you say that?...I'm no expert, but I saw the opposite, estrogen is bad for hair.
An example:
Association between estrogen receptor beta gene (ESR2) polymorphisms and female pattern hair loss – more evidence for a detrimental role for estrogens in hair growth
Introduction: Female pattern hair loss (FPHL) is a complex polygenic trait in which sex steroid hormones may play a pathogenic role. We previously reported the aromatase gene, CYP19A1, as a putative causative gene for FPHL through a SNP association especially in affected women <40 years.1 This SNP association suggests a detrimental role for estrogens in hair growth through inference from a previously reported association between this particular SNP and higher circulating estrogen levels in post-menopausal women. Estrogen binding to ER-β, the predominant estrogen receptor subtype within the hair follicle, is thought to directly modulate hair growth. To further investigate the role of estrogens in FPHL, this study comprehensively examined ESR2 DNA sequence variation and their relationship with FPHL.
Method: In 484 women with grades 3-5 FPHL on the Sinclair scale and 471 controls, we tested for associations between FPHL and 32 tag SNPs that captured105 individual SNPs in and around the ESR2 gene region.
Results: The CC genotype of the associated tag SNP rs10137185 occurred more frequently in women with FPHL (OR = 0.52, 95% CI = 0.34 - 0.8, p = 0.003), especially in those ≥40 years. For the second associated tag SNP rs17701774, its TT genotype occurred more frequently in women with FPHL (OR = 0.32, 95% CI = 0.13 - 0.76, p = 0.008, age-adjusted), especially in those ≥40 years.
Conclusions: The association between ESR2 and FPHL further enhances our hypothesis that estrogens are pathogenic for FPHL. While CYP19A1 might predispose more to younger-onset FPHL, ESR2 might predispose to older-onset FPHL.

Re: Masturbation and Hair Loss?
I'm a bit confused. Does ejaculation, or sexual stimulation in general, raise testosterone levels or estrogen levels? I'm assuming the former but are we saying the later is actually bad for hair (in men)? please help lol
