Lugols and Iodine can they affect T4 and RT3?
I am in process of trying to get my Thyroid back to balance. I currently take a small 5mg dose of Cytomel 1xdaily. I was on Armour and Lugols before having a Thyroid and Iron panel done in August 2011. My August labs done had a high RT3 and a high TSH and my Iron panel had Low TIBC and Low UIBC.
In an effort to try and avoid heavy dosing on thyroid prescriptions I purchased an Iodine loading kit. My results displayed 63% spill and having a spill rate below 90% is considered Iodine deficient. I was planning to take bovine Thyroid and Iodoral/Lugols or Iodine. I am in process of completing a 30 day heavy metal Detox that CS had recommended too.
When I sought out advice from other people I was told to stay away from supplementing with Lugols and Iodine and Bovine Thyroid. They mentioned that Lugols can elevate T4. Iodine can increase RT3 and Bovine Thyroid can also adversly affect RT3. They also mentioned that I should test for Graves disease???
I feel my symptoms are more similar to that of being Hypo and my basal body temp in the mornings is about 97.3 on average. Somedays it can reach 97.8 and other days 96.9 but on average 97.3 for now.
Thoughts?

That's why you need co-factors with your iodine, such as zinc, magnesium, and selenium. There is a good article on Healthyfixx.com about it.

When I further asked those same people about my posting the response was that Thyroid glandular may contain T4 which may convert to RT3.
Regarding Iodine it was further explained to me that Thyroid hormones are made up of iodine atoms on a tyrosine backbone. So optimizing thyroid by taking thyroid hormone will provide the body with the iodine it needs without provoking Hashi's attacks or other undesirable side effects that can occur by taking iodine alone.
