A couple of questions:

Would taking 500 mg Berberine with ALA Sustained Release 900mg (300mgx3) would be safe for a Type 1 along with insulin? (I know the sustained ALA doesn't make her hypoglycemic, but have there been any reports of berberine causing sugar to drop rapidly? Advisable to take at the same time or should they be taken at different times?)

Any particular form of magnesium you recommend or have experience with that would be helpful in this case and wouldn't hurt the stomach - dosage?

edci - Magnesium dosage can be tricky and of course the type used will make a lot of difference. A gentle form of Mg would be Magnesium glycinate.

CS what's your take on the safety and efficacy of chromium - it seems to have mixed reviews?

And is there any real difference between the picolinate, polynicotate and GTF in terms of both safety and efficacy?

Chromium is safe, the problem is effectiveness of many forms. There have been a lot of powerful claims made about chromium, but often they fall short because the actual form that works best is not studied usually, and most of the supplements are not in that form either, therefore the results are usually lacking.

If forms that you mentioned are used (which are not particularly effective), the dosage needs to be at least 5 times the typical suggested dose. On other hand, a food based chromium supplement will work fine in the suggested dose.
