Gluten sensitivity and PCOS
I've noticed the diet recommendations to avoid gluten...especially in women with PCOS. But I've made the serologic tests (TG Ab etc) and they were negative.
Is it possible gluten still harms my hair loss?
Any studies? ...
And how to replace it? With just fruit, veggies and protein I feel weak all the time ... :/

Re: Gluten sensitivity and PCOS
Unrealistic - 80% of PCOS are allergic to wheat, but not all. One thing you might try is eating wheat and taking some IP6 or just plain inositol, it may help counteract a sustained blood sugar elevation and also correct the metabolic conundrum in PCOS.

Re: Gluten sensitivity and PCOS
Since PCOS is the female equivalent of MPB, is it possible that wheat also exacerbates MPB? I mean, in ways beyond the established contribution of grains to insulin resistance? It would certainly help explain the prevalence of MPB in western societies.
Also another note...I was just thinking of Ray Peat's opinion that excess PUFA should be avoided like the plague. From this point of view, it would seem that refined grains are actually healthier than whole grains. While whole grains have a smaller glycemic index, they also have plant toxins and way more omega 6 than refined grains.

Re: Gluten sensitivity and PCOS
CS what is IP6?
Having the test negative am I 'free' to eat gluten? (So many nice things in life come in 'bread shape' .. :S )
What alternatives to gluten are 'hair safe'?
Thank you CS for all your help.

IP6 stands for Inositol Hexaphosphate. One of the advantages of IP6 is that is chelates out the iron out of the
fortified flour products. The inositol itself also improves PCOS.
You're better off consuming sourdough bread, because the gluten is mostly nullified by the lactic acid bacteria.

And what about oatmeal? As bad as wheat? Worse?

I totally second CS.
Grains need to be fermented if consumed as a staple part of ones diet. If whole grains are not fermented and consumed regularly, then in that instance, simple refined grains are probably healthier.

What about milk, biologic? Is it free of hormones? Is it worse than wheat for hair?

Re: Gluten sensitivity and PCOS
I'm sorry to insist but is milk (even raw) safe for hair?
I've read that over 80% of the human population looses its lactase function by the time they reach adulthood and can't digest milk...
