Help on PCOS. Empty Help on PCOS.

Post  Unrealistic Mon Feb 07, 2011 8:28 am

Greetings everyone,
I'm a 31 y.o. Woman who found out this forum by chance. My HL has begun at 17 and is slowly killing me since then. It has come to the point that I pray God takes me in my sleep... What have I done to deserve this? ...
Anyway I Was diagnosed at17 with familial hypercholesterolaemia (my father and brothers also have it) and at 18 with PCOS (although HL is my only symptom besides the cysts).
If someone could just give me some pointers or links or just something that might help me on this road I would be so thankful.
I've lost my hope on almost everything...I don't go out, I don't see my friends. It just seems as a burdon I am not strong enough to carry.
Thank you.

Thank you for helping.

Should I drop the sinvastatin?

I had thyroid testing, everything was ok, should I do the iodine anyway?

Unrealistic - I wrote this article about thyroid here, and even though it's about weight loss, it is primarily about thyroid.
It will explain why iodine is crucial. Also as far as PCOS goes, it is also very crucial. The entire body needs iodine, not just the thyroid.

CS - you say one should use sulphoraphane to rid themselves of h pylori - my question for you is - how much per day and how long to use it? Also--What about mastic gum--know anything about that/dosage and length to get rid of h pylori?

JosephineMarie - Study on Mastic gum for H. Pylori.

Phytomedicine. 2010 Mar;17(3-4):296-9. Epub 2009 Oct 29.
The effect of mastic gum on Helicobacter pylori: a randomized pilot study.
Dabos KJ, Sfika E, Vlatta LJ, Giannikopoulos G.

Department of Gastroenterology, Chios General Hospital Skylitsion, Helenas Venizalou 2, 82100 Chios, Greece. kostasophia@yahoo.com

Our aim was to study the effect of pure mastic gum on Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication in patients suffering from an H. pylori infection Fifty two patients were randomized to receive either 350mg three times a day (tid) of pure mastic gum for 14 days (Group A), or 1,05g tid of pure mastic gum (Group B) for 14 days, or pantoprazole 20mg twice a day (bd) plus pure mastic gum 350mg tid for 14 days (Group C) or pantoprazole 20mg bd plus amoxicillin 1g bd plus clarithromycin 500mg bd for 10 days (Group D). All patients harboured H. pylori before entering the study and that was confirmed by a (13)C urea breath test (UBT). H. pylori eradication was tested by a UBT 5 weeks after completion of the eradication regime. Eradication of H. pylori was confirmed in 4/13 patients in Group A and in 5/13 in Grour B. No patient in Group C achieved eradication whereas 10/13 patients in Group D had a negative UBT. There were no statistically significant differences in mean UBT values in Groups A, B, C although there was a trend in Group A (p=0.08) and in Group B (p=0.064). The difference was significant in Group D (p=0.01). All patients tolerated mastic gum well and no serious adverse events were reported. Mastic gum has bactericidal activity on H. pylori in vivo.

Regarding sulforaphane:

Forty-eight H. pylori-infected patients were randomly assigned to feeding of broccoli sprouts (70 g/d; containing 420 micromol of SF precursor) for 8 weeks or to consumption of an equal weight of alfalfa sprouts (not containing SF) as placebo. Intervention with broccoli sprouts, but not with placebo, decreased the levels of urease measured by the urea breath test and H. pylori stool antigen (both biomarkers of H. pylori colonization) and serum pepsinogens I and II (biomarkers of gastric inflammation). Values recovered to their original levels 2 months after treatment was discontinued. Daily intake of sulforaphane-rich broccoli sprouts for 2 months reduces H. pylori colonization in mice and improves the sequelae of infection in infected mice and in humans.

Sorry for bothering again but I can't seem to find the progesterone cream..

Would it be ok to replace it for didrogesterone 10 mg or the real progesterone 10 mg both orally the same cycle days you said?

Thank you again so much.

Unrealistic - I missed an earlier question regarding Simvastatin. Yes, would drop it, it's an utter poison.

Always avoid synthetic.

Here is where to find natural progesterone cream:

You are not bothering at all!!!

Please don't even think like that - you can trust some of the fine minds on here - Caustic Symmetry, jdp, nidhigge, action-reaction, prague, even my good self.

You can get through this. Hair loss is just the body's way of communciating to you to change something - diet, environment, lifestyle, supplements, exercise...

Start like this:

Write out the advice you would give someone who is in your position - to make it less personal. Wroet out everything to make that person as healthy as possible, read all the posts you can on diet and clean environments both at home and at work.

Then write out a chart of all your relationships and who brings you joy and who does not.
Then what activities bring you joy and what do not.

Then buy a book by Eckhart Tolle - a new earth (if you like that kind of thing)...

You are to be healthy, happy and a radiant joyful self. You would not have this much suffering unless you were also given the strength to find a way through it to happiness again.

I trust you. Very Happy

Ok so sulforaphane wins. Thank you again! I'm going for it--will incorporate the sulforaphane into my regimen. Currently i take 4-5 tabl of HCL depending on the size of my meal to digest my food and last time I had a panel done I was equivocal for H. pylori. Although, I have to say, upon your advice, I started b12, the methyl type, so that may possibly help me to produce HCL. As well, I have been off of Lexapro and taking the B12 and lithium and am doing pretty well so far--no anxiety. We shall see how it goes when I get farther in. At about 6 weeks I should be able to tell whether I am again messed up off of the lexapro again or not. But the good signs are already here--no bad dreams, which typically begin right away when I stop taking the Lex Smile

Thank you so much for all your replies - they are so deeply appreciated.

Is there any *hope* for regrowth of whatever is lost? :/ Just the female regimen? Or should I do a topical?

Thank you again.

Unrealistic - Women have a better chance of regrowing more of the lost hair than men. It all comes down to how viable those progenitors cells are. How long that damage has occurred for. It will take a while to realize the full benefits.

I would estimate that it takes a full year and a half to maximize hair health from start to finish (due to growth cycles and remodeling).

One thing to look forward to is re-thickening. When the diameter continues to grow thicker, it looks like you have more hair.

Post  Unrealistic Sun Apr 03, 2011 3:48 am

Just read a thread on the forum about low self esteem after shaving head and balding...As a woman I feel it's even more hard (it it's possible...) Some women's beauty reside on their hair, what to do when you have none? :/
I have friends with PCOS they are obese, maybe have acne, but none with hair loss... Just me.

Is there really any hope for women with PCOS? Does our balding work the same way as men? Should we do the same 6 regimen?? Diet ?

I already do the female loss regimen, what am I doing wrong? Some pointers would be greatly appreciated.

You're correct, I should make it more clear on the site. PCOS is essentially the women's equivalent of male pattern baldness. If you have PCOS do not use any iron supplements. Would recommend the Top 6, but it's good as an anti-aging protocol as well.

As you probably already know, iodine is especially important for PCOS.

Unrealistic, I feel for you, last year I was diagnosed with PCOS --out of all POS symptoms I find hair loss to be one of the most difficult one to deal with --it also doesn’t help if you remember the kind of comments people use to make when they would look at your hair “is your hair real? Do you have extensions? What do you use because your hair is so long and healthy?” Sad I feel like crying all the time when I look at my pictures -- I wish I didn’t had hair loss but was overweight instead Sad

Anyway, enough of the crying -- I truly believe there is a hope, I started taking good Vit , Ginseng , Spiro 25mg, D-Chiro Inositol (DCI),saw Palmetto ( but I stopped now for few days coz it made my breast very sensitive), Vit D, Minox ( used it only for one week and my skin started to itch bad so I stopped) and I am going to try Curcuma this week.
As hard as it is to deal with hair loss , every evening one hair less in my hair brush gives me hope ( I count my hair --I know it’s crazy). I must admit that exercising helped me greatly with dealing with my hair loss too -few months back I couldn’t even use the word Hair without crying my eyes out – I have adjusted my diet as well and I am better aware of what my body likes and dislikes -- beside this I try not to worry about my hair too much, at least in my case worry=more hair falling off...

I am still reading and trying new things and hopefull one day I will find the magic cure -- Very Happy
I wish you all the best
Nara

PS: last night , I used chilli pepper ( dried ones) and black pepper infused oil on my scalp – this morning no hair loss under the shower  I am super excited about it.
