Dietary changes Empty Dietary changes

Post  Lambaugh Wed Sep 29, 2010 5:34 am

Hi guys

There is something regarding my diet I don't completely understand. I'm 22, and for all my life I have been able to eat pasta, all kinds of breads, pizza etc. without my scalp itching. Now 1-2 years ago, I notice that my scalp has started to itch when eating these things.

I am not sure if it qualifies as gluten-intolerance, but how can these changes in the body come so late in life? This might be a little far out, but is it possible that all the supplements we are taking are creating these effects? I.e., that e.g. my regimen is what causes the itch in my scalp when I eat spaghetti.

Maybe it is not the carbohydrates, but rather what often accompanies it.

A food intolerance can develop after puberty. Lactose intolerance is an example. The issue is whether it's gluten, just wheat, or a sizable amount of any high-glycemic carbohydrate causes the reaction. That's easy to test. Reacting to many things would suggest there's a gastrointestinal problem, perhaps microbial overgrowth there.

Lambaugh,

You could try an elimination diet for a few weeks, i.e. eliminating gluten and see how you feel. If there's no difference, try eliminating all carbs other than veggie carbs and see how you feel. If that doesn't work try a vegan diet and see how you feel.

You're going to have to experiment and be very honest with yourself in order to find out what foods may be the triggers for you.

It's not as hard as you think though. I've been trying to stay completely gluten free for awhile now and I had an increase in scalp inflammation and acne, but my joints that were previously aching and sore have stopped doing so. I think I'm getting close to the realization that grains are not good for me at all and I'm going to have to avoid them and focus on protein, good fats and veggies for carbs as my diet.

That said, not everyone reacts the same way. Hence, you need to do some experimenting on your own and see what kind of differences you see/feel.
