Ocean water
So I spent the day at the beach yesterday and went swimming for no longer than 10 minutes. Yet I've been shedding like crazy since then! My hair is dried out and my dandruff is acting up. I don't understand what's going on! Is ocean water (Atlantic btw) bad for our hair/scalp? Can anyone help me? I tried rehydrating with aloe with urea, but I'm lost right now. I've coconut oil on now but ive got a weird build up on my scalp.

Re: Ocean water
It's not going to effect your hair. When your hair is dry I tend to see a lot more hair and I'm more conscious of it, fact is there is no more hair coming out.
If I recall Iodine in the sea air should be good for you.

Re: Ocean water
Yea I sort of thought it would benefit my hair by cleansing my scalp and possibly nurturing it, but i'm far from that right now. It's absolutely shedding much more than normal as I'm always conscious of how much I shed. You're saying that it won't effect my hair in the long term right? Anything I can do to get rid of this build up (It seems like salt or something causing it) or rehydrate?

I'm not going to give you an answer on something I'm not perfectly sure about. I'm one of the more experienced posters will be able to help you though..

I think I agree with you Paradox. I used some coconut oil and cayenner pepper to wash it out. Then shampooed and it's a lot better, but still not in great shape. Anything else you can recommend for me to do now or that can be done in the future to avoid this effect from the ocean? I thought salt water rinses were supposed to be beneficial.
Being at the beach also got me thinking about my silver chain that i always wear. Do you think I could be giving myself a source of heavy metal similar to fillings? How about with white gold?

If the ocean water is irritating you, then rinse thoroughly with regular water after swimming.
