Eating turmeric
Hi
It will be a while before I get my curcumin (the extract of turmeric powder), so I thought that I would eat turmeric in the mean time. Do you have any rough idea of how much I should eat daily? Half a table spoon? A whole? I am worried, since I heard that overdosing is bad for you.
Best,
Jim.

If you consume a whole turmeric, it may be harmful to you. I think there is no harm to have ½ teaspoon.

Re: Eating turmeric
I take 1-2 tablespoons of fresh organic rhizome turmeric everyday and I'm doing better then ever.
IMO whole form turmeric is THE best stuff to take, I believe its healthier in the long run then taking curcumin extract. With the turmeric you just cut it up into small bits and swallow it, thats if you can get the fresh whole rhizome though. The next best thing is the powder, but preferably try and get it organic and non irradiated. After that the curcumin is the next best option.

What time of day do you do this? Do you do it on an empty/full stomach, and with water/milk?
Thanks.

Lambaugh - I take the turmeric right before dinner with a swig of milk kefir.

Re: Eating turmeric
Fresh turmeric? .. I nerver heard of or seen that.
Turmeric is made from boiling a root for several hours.
Ginger is a fresh root, with a totally different antioxidantprofile.

North-Europe - Turmeric is made straight from the turmeric plant(Curcuma longa), which is closely related to the ginger plant, and yes, you most certainly can eat turmeric fresh. I have a ton of the stuff growing in my yard. You simply dig it up, then eat it! You only need to boil it if you are planning to make it into powder.

Re: Eating turmeric
Silverlin, wow I would like to try that stuff ..
I dont think it can grow around here .. so, powder is all i got.
I thought the curcuma plant had very hard roots, and that was the reason for boiling it for so long.
What is the root like, is it easily cuttable and chewable like ginger?

North-europe - Yes it has a very similar consistency to ginger. I take both with garlic as they have a very synergistic effect together. Its also great grated into meals as it doesn't have that over powering taste like the powder.
If you have a sub tropical to tropical climate you can get them all year round. Otherwise you may only get them once or twice a year in a colder climate.
