Turmeric/curcumin Empty Turmeric/curcumin

Hi

First, is there a difference between turmeric and curcumin? Second - and most important - I read somewhere that curcumin (even though it helps with inflammation) can actually cause hairloss. Is that utterly wrong?

Best,
Jim.

Ive been on curcumin for a month now and I must report that it hasnt helped me with inflammation. I've also been shedding quite a lot of hairs, especially short ones, which is either a bad sign or a sign of regrowth. Will give it another month and see what happens. To be honest, I think my thyroid is the root cause of my inflammation and itchiness.

I think curcumin is a concentration of the most active part of turmeric - curcuminoids.

There you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curcumin

And inflammation erm.. I wouldn't rely on curcumin alone to kill it. You will need either an incredibly potent oral regimen (like the IH regimen), a very strong oral anti-inflammatory (like the one's you get in single capsule form) or something topical like aloe vera, coconut milk, ketoconazole, stuff like that. Inflammation is a combination of the destructive reactions taking place in the follicles as triggered by DHT, and also I would imagine the accumulation of sebum and related problems. I have included Hair Regain and that shampoo and salicylic acid combo in my regimen to tackle specifically this, and am also on a completely non-inflammatory diet so I can cut down my levels of free radicals and inflammation systemically dramatically. I'm sure the IH topical shampoo would do it well too, but I am still learning about it really so I am still getting to grips with the properties it has! Smile

A topical scavenger of free radicals such as SODs or azelaic acid would probably also help.
